It was a rare day, a day in which Fred Weasley was not accompanied by his other half, George. George had been ill for almost a week and Fred was on edge at every moment. He'd be at George's side had it not have been for George's refusal to allow Fred to sit and watch him rot. Despite the argument Fred had prepared, he decided to drop it in order to avoid an unnecessary disagreement between the two. George would be better eventually anyway, and there was no room in Fred's mind for stress. It was one of the few scenarios that would put either of the twins into unease.
Waiting was not easy, but it was doable. Fred could go and snag some potion ingredients from Snape's room. There was definitely a possibility that he could put to use something in the stuffy room. He could always use more to experiment with, considering that the failure rate was high as they had not yet mastered the art of potion creating. So many ingredients were put to waste from an explosion and they always needed more. Snape would undoubtedly skin him alive were he to catch him, but they hadn't been caught yet so it was worth the risk.
Rounding a corner , Fred took the stairs up to the seventh floor. To his dismay, he had practically killed himself tripping over his own feet only to see that a class was filling out. He'd have to wait for the room to empty before going in, the potions master probably wouldn't leave the room alone r5ight away. Backed against the wall, Fred watched as a bunch of first years exited the potions room. He took interest toward one person in particular who seemed to be having a hard time with another student.
He listened intently but couldn't exactly make out what was happening. He hated standing there, doing nothing, but he knew from experience that it was better to show independence and ability to stand up for yourself, rather than having someone else do it for you. After a quick thirty seconds or so had gone by, the ordeal was ended by one of the students getting her books knocked out of her hands. Dang, first years got meaner by the second. It seemed like every year, they got worse, more desperate to do what they had to to fit in, Fred had assumed.
As soon as the other kid was out of sight, Fred approached the girl and instinctively bent down to hep her with her books. He couldn't help but notice as he lifted his head that she had a quality that separated her from the rest. Her eyes were two obviously different colors. Trying not to stare, he focused on the rest of her. Small, light hair, not exactly bully material. Ya'know, people tend to attack those who pose a threat. There is definitely something about you that makes that genius jealous. You smart? Any good with a wand? He gave her a friendly smile before standing up and revealing that he had at least two feet on her. Fred Weasley, he offered while handing her a few books. Horrid timing on my part, sorry about that. Playing the whole 'I've got people to hide behind' game doesn't go well with kids like that, though. Take it from me..I've got enough siblings.

POTIONS had been disastrous. The class itself had been easy, fun almost; however her fellow students seemed rather aggressive towards her. Their reactions toward her always answering the professor’s questions had almost made her ashamed for being versed in the way of potions. Professor Snape seemed rather delighted, but even the Ravenclaw students shot her dirty looks. As the class was dismissed, and Lilith gathered her things, she glanced around to see many sets of eyes glaring at her. Bucking up her chin, Lilith smirked lightly and forced herself to build a wall. These students insulted the name of Hogwarts: to show such hostility because of knowledge. This was a school wasn’t it? Biting her lip lightly, Lilith walked through the exit and into the hallway, followed by a young boy.
Lilith could hear his footsteps speed up before she felt his shoulder slam into hers on his way past. Then he turned and snickered. Around her, she saw a few more boys and a Slytherin girl enclose her in a circle. ”Freak! one yelled, shoving her to the girl. Taking a handful of her hair, the girl grinned wickedly and held her up as if she were a prize. ”I’ve caught the rare genius, Sean. What should I do with it? Maybe she’ll do my homework for potions class!” With that, she shoved her towards ‘Sean’. He caught her and slapped her books out of her hand. A second later, Lilith’s hand connected with his face, producing a satisfying slap! sound. Turning around just in time to catch another one of the boys advancing on her, Lilith kicked his shin and shoved him back. Sean, behind her, had recovered and pushed her forward onto her face. Then he kicked her books around on the floor while the rest of the group retreated. ”Next time your blood will stain the floor, freak!”
Picking herself up, Lilith looked around for any more signs of danger. When she was satisfied that she was alone, she dusted her robe off and began to pick up her books. That was, until she noticed two additional set of feet moving around near her, the hands belonging to the same personal collecting her books. ”If you plan to throw those out the window, I’ll make sure you follow them!” Her voice was full of anger and defense, her face screwed up to match. As she rose her face to set her two-colored eyes on the newcomer, she noticed his robe laced in red. Gryffindor. She rather liked Gryffindors, but it didn’t stop them from being mean to a new, dorky first year.
”Ya'know, people tend to attack those who pose a threat. There is definitely something about you that makes that genius jealous. You smart? Any good with a wand?” His words hit her like a hammer, surprise streaking her face. ”Just a little. What’s it to you? Looking for someone to bully as well? That’s all anyone seems to be doing in this bloody school.” Dropping his gaze, Lilith glared at the stone floor. She had been so excited for Hogwarts, but really, why did she think it would be different here? She was a pureblood, so magic was normal. Here, everyone was normal. Except her. Because of a stupid eye color: such shallowness. Raising her gaze once again to meet the Gryffindor boy’s, Lilith grimaced. ”Fred Weasley,” he said while handing Lilith her books. Pressing her lips together in a straight line, she glared at him, thinking. He’s being nice. . . It was almost a rare occurrence. Taking the books from his softly, she continued to stare, her gaze softening slowly. ”Horrid timing on my part, sorry about that. Playing the whole 'I've got people to hide behind' game doesn't go well with kids like that, though. Take it from me . . I've got enough siblings.”
Nodding slowly Lilith picked up the last of her books and continued to stare at him. Before long she found herself answering, her tone much nicer. ”I’m Lilith Graham.” She couldn’t help but add a small smile. ”And, uhm. Thanks. For the books. And for not stepping in. I don’t think . . . that would have fixed anything.” Shuffling her books around, she held out a hand for him to shake. Politeness, as some may not believe, was one thing she did possess.

ginny had been absent from all of her classes today, and had a fairly plausible reason for it. she had felt ill this morning, coughing and sneezing and sniffling and what not. and the thing was, she knew exactly why she was ill. george had been ill all week, and ginny, trying to be the good sister that she was, went up and visited him. while there, george sneezed on her. it was bloody disgusting. for a second she thought he did that on purpose, until gin saw a somewhat guilty look in his eyes. it's like he knew that she would get sick after that. so of course, it came as less than a surprise when ginny felt like her head was about to explode and her nose was going to combust (it was red as her hair!), not to mention her throat was scratchy and hurt when she talked. of course, instead of feeling sorry for herself and going to madame pomfrey, she got dressed in some clean pajamas, pulled her hair back in a ponytail, got a headband and took her own little tour around the school. no one would bother her, seeing that she was obviously ill. once one weasley got ill, they all did.
she was growing bored increasingly quick. but anything was better than sitting in the gryffindor common room staring at the fireplace. there was no way ginny was going to study for classes or look for missed work. aimlessly walking through the floors of the school seemed like a pleasant pastime in comparison. that was, until she hit the seventh floor and heard some commotion. it sounded like first year troubles, but she couldn't manage to figure out what it was about. ginny stepped out a bit to view the commotion just in time to see a few boys troubling the girl, smacking her books away, and leaving. then, a familiar voice sounded. a friendly, goofy kind of voice that could only be one of two people. and it had to be fred, since george was in the common room blowing his nose and clutching a waste bin. that was going to be ginny in a few days, how lovely. she stood there, making sure fred was polite, and wasn't being a scary 7th year to a little first year. ginny listened intently to his advice to the girl, and chuckled when he mentioned the sibling thing. that's when she decided to step out.
"he's right you know. ginny weasley, sibling number seven." she said with a friendly smile on her face. her words were a bit distorted since her nose was clogged. her pulled out her handkerchief and blew into it a few times. she stuffed it in her back pocket and gave them both that 'well, ya know' kind of face. ginny watched in confusion as the girl attacked her brother. someone was angry...though, eventually she did calm down enough, and introduced herself as lilith graham. she immediately though of harry's mum, lily, when she spoke her name. "nice to meet you lilith. and surely, we could have stepped in. me and freddie could have taken those punks." she winked at her brother. ginny looked at the girl once again. "ravenclaw? very nice, you must be smart. my boyfriend's in ravenclaw, perhaps you've been acquainted with him." she said, knowing full well that fred didn't like her talking about her relationships. "i'm fourth year gryffindor. as you can tell by my red pajamas." she said with a chuckle. "that scary guy over there is a 7th year gryffindor." she said with a bemused expression on her face.

A soft grin remained on Fred's face as the girl reacted. It was ridiculous the way some people acted. This girl had clearly been the victim a countless number of times and it was evident as she acted so defensively. She almost seemed surprised at the fact that he hadn't come over to mess with her. He knew that many seventh years thought they could just go picking on the newbies, taking pride in the fact that they were better with magic. It was a stupid thought, really. Just because someone was new to Hogwart's didn't make them worse with magic. In fact, some kids, like the Weasleys, were brought up with magic and ended up naturally more experienced than other students. His attention went back to Lilith, as she had introduced herself.
You can breath.. I wasn't going to throw your books anywhere..despite the temptation I have with defiling that potions book. He teased lightly, wanting her to lighten up without really trying to embarrass her. Nice to meetcha, Lilith. Is it me..or do you almost come across as used to dealing with other obnoxious kids? It sure looked like she got treated badly often. Nobody deserved to be antagonized like that. Hogwart's isn't all bad. You just haven't found the right mates to be with.
Suddenly, he heard Ginny join in. The first thing he noticed was her nasal-sounding greeting. Face palming himself, he glanced at Ginny as she walked up. You've been with George.. he let you stay with him and not me?! He's got to be out of it.. he muttered, still having ill feelings toward not being able to spend time with his twin lately. He tried to push those thoughts aside and chuckled at Ginny's comment. Of course we could have taken them. But, Lilith, you probably could have as well. I'm sensing some intelligence off of you, he said, completely disregarding her Ravenclaw robe. Not everyone was steriotypical of his or her House.
A small grimace appeared on Fred's face as Ginny brought up her boyfriend. It drove him crazy..the thought of his baby sister snogging anyone. He'd bring that up later, at a time more fit for embarrassment. I'm not that scary, he said while sticking his tongue out at his sister before looking back at Lilith. He really wanted to get somewhere with her. She didn't have to feel uncomfortable around everyone. There were kids in the school who actually wanted to be helpful every once in a while, even people like Fred whose usual goal was to drive people crazy.

FRED assured her that he wasn’t planning to throw her books out, as she had accused, but his comment about her potions textbook made her clutch it a little tighter. ”Potions isn’t so bad. ” She said, her gaze glanced down fondly at her textbook. Potions, after all, was what she wanted to teach later in life. When Fred said it was nice to meet her, Lilith said the same, a light blush forming on her face. ”Yes. I’ve been a social outcast for four years now.” There was definitely a story behind why, which would come in time, but for now this red-head was still basically a stranger. ”My friends all made fun of me,” she said, pointing to her right eye, ”and no one wanted to be friends with a freak.” She had heard it so many times that she was starting to actually believe it. His comments about friends, though, made her feel a bit better.
Lilith nearly jumped behind Fred as another red-haired Gryffindor girl, clearly not a seventh year, jumped into the scene. She looked rather sick, but Lilith couldn’t bring herself to pity her while she was baring her teeth in defense. That was, until the girl spoke her name, a more than warm smile lighting up her paling face. Apparently, being sick wasn’t going to put her down. A small smile spread over Lilith’s lips as well as she noted the similarities between Fred and Ginny. Red hair must run in the family. Part of her wanted to see the rest of the ‘siblings’. That would be something indeed. Just then, Ginny pulled out a handkerchief, performing a series of sickening motions that only an ill person could achieve. A light grin appeared on her face as Ginny’s commented on the bullies, winking playfully at her brother. When Fred agreed, and then said she could have done the same herself, Lilith blushed, shy and embarrassed about their confidence in her.
When Ginny brought up Lilith’s house, and then her boyfriend, she nodded lightly. Sure, she had been put into Ravenclaw because she was from a line of Ravenclaw students, and rather intelligent, but sometimes she felt she belonged on Gryffindor more. She liked their personalities better anyway; they were more friendly and outgoing. A grin spread across Lilith’s face at the exchange between the siblings. She suddenly missed her older sibling whom had just graduated last year. Then Fred looked back at her, and she made it a point to stare back. She didn’t say anything, rather, just waited for him to comment. Silently she switched her gaze back and forth between Fred and Ginny, smiling brightly. They were a little more comfortable to be around now, now that Lilith was certain they weren’t there to bully her.

ginny looked taken aback and fred's obvious surprise to staying with george. was he not letting fred spend time with him? "ob course he let be stay with him." she said in her nasally voice. "probessor dumbledore had me give him his homework. he said he couldn't find you." ginny felt stupid that she couldn't pronounce f's correctly. "i brought him his stub and we talked for a little while. then he sneezed on me." she said, rolling her eyes. gin looked fake offended about the snide comment about him being out of it for spending time with her. "watch it, be glad he hasn't let you see him, otherwise, you'd be sick as me." she said, blowing her nose almost on cue. she felt the urge to smack him, as she usually did, but didn't want to waste time or energy walking those few feet over to him to do so. "i would smack you, if you weren't so bar away." she said to him, raising her hand in a fist with the handkerchief still in it, and narrowing her eyes in a playful manner.
ginny nodded in agreement at her brother's statement. "yeah, and not just because you're a ravenclaw either. trust me, there are some bairly non-intelligent people in ravenclaw, and some really smart people in other houses." such as hermione. hermione had to be one of the smartest people in harry and ron's year, if not the smartest. she could run circles around the lot of those ravenclaws. ginny raised a questioning eyebrow at her brother as he grimaced at mention of michael. she wasn't expecting any different of a reaction from him. ginny, however, was surprised he didn't say anything about it. maybe he was being nice for once and not trying to embarrass her. or the embarrassment would probably come later, when there were more people around. she reckoned the second one would be more like him. note to self, try to avoid fred as much as possible after this, or at least social situations with him.
"please, bred, you're brightening." she said, her nasally speech making it sound more like a compliment than the insult she was going for. figures. "and mature." ginny promptly stuck her tongue back out at him, matching his maturity level just a bit. she composed herself as lilith spoke again. she was surprised to see someone defending potions. most people she knew couldn't stand the class and did terribly. she was one of those people that didn't do well, nor enjoy the class. "do you like potions?" ginny asked politely. "because then i won't make bun of it or anything." she didn't want to offend the girl in any way. it looked like she already had a hard enough day. "me and bred just aren't big bans of the class, is all." that was a complete understatement.
a social outcast? ginny couldn't understand why. she seemed like a nice girl, very smart too. she pointed to her eye, which ginny hadn't been focused enough to realize until now. one eye was blue, and the other was green. wicked. "they didn't want to be briends with you because ob your eye? i think your eyes are bloody amazing, actually." ginny pointed to her own eyes. "see? mine are just boring brown. i'd love to have unique eyes like you." she didn't know if her eyes had always been like that, or if something had happened to make them that way. in the case of the second, she figured there may be a grey area behind that. didn't want to get anybody antsy, now.

Smiling smugly, Fred kept his eyes on Lilith's potions book, interested in the fact that she seemed to actually like the class. That could help her later on. Potions could do anything if brewed correctly. Anyone who grew up to be good in potions could easily put charms on unexpecting victims. Of course, this was a first year, but those thoughts went through Fred's mind almost automatically when he thought of potions. They had otherwise been boring in his experiences.
He listened, disgusted, as Lilith explained how kids gave her a hard time because of her eyes. If anything, Fred only became more curious about the girl by seeing them. He nodded, understanding why the first years had made fun of her as she walked out of Snape's room. If being different makes you a freak, then I'm pretty sure that I want to be friends with one, he shrugged, really meaning her without having intended to insult her. He shook his head, just thinking about the absurd ways of thinking that some people had. He understood what she went through, to a small degree. Before the Weasleys had hit it off in school, they had been viewed as the poor gingers..not really a title of endearment.
It was clear that the words thrown at Lilith really bothered her. He chuckled slightly before commenting on this observation. Ya'know, being the same makes you a freak as well, he thought aloud, referring to George, and all of the people who had dared to call them 'clones'. I've found that getting people back for their immature nature seems to work very well in ending the abuse. He smirked, knowing he must have been such a bad influence, though he never worked to improve that quality in him.It was fun and just, why stop?
Fred crossed his arms and listened to Ginny mockingly as she spoke. He scoffed as she seemed to be surprised at his confusion. Of course he wasn't going to understand George's stubbornness in the matter. He wouldn't let his other half stay with him, but he'd put up with his little sister? Such confusion. Well, Stuffy, George wouldn't give it a rest. I would much rather be stuck all sickly with him, but apparently he doesn't want me to sound like you. He stuck his tongue out at her. He settled down for a moment and took the time to look at Lilith's eyes, for , really, the first time since he had approached her as Ginny pointed them out again. Curiosity hit Fred quickly, but he wasn't going to intrude right away.

LILITH had to cover her mouth to conceal her bright, ear-to-ear grin as she watched the banter between Fred and Ginny. They were fighting, yes, but in an amusing way where even they were having fun. That was true love between siblings. Lilith stood admiring the two’s relationship, and because of it nearly missed it when Ginny brought her back into their conversation. ”It’s okay,” she assured her, holding her palms up as much as she could with the books still contained within her grasp. ”But yes, potions is one of my favorite classes. Professor Snape is . . rather,” Lilith tilted her head slightly, casting her gaze to the ceiling as she thought. Once she had figured out the rest of her sentence, her gaze fell back down to meet Ginny’s. ”matured in the way he teaches.” This was a little understated; however it possibly explained why most students hated his class. He wasn’t particularly kind to his students, separating the intelligent ones from the idiots based on first impression. In Lilith’s opinion, her mother could be a more effective professor, even if she wasn’t quite as skilled as Professor Snape is.
Then Ginny commented on her eyes, causing a deep blush to fill her pale features. She had been the first to ever tell Lilith her eyes were to be admired. Even her own parents hadn’t told her that: in fact, she had been pitied rather than envied. This was an entirely new experience. Then Fred jumped in, saying something that made her travel to Hogwarts worth while. She could have been kidding herself, thinking she’d come to Hogwarts only to study. Lilith had also hoped that here she would be accepted, only to have those hopes dashed by her classmates. But having these two siblings stand here and tell her she wasn’t the freak everyone else made her out to be meant a lot. No, it meant the beginning of a new Lilith. One with more confidence in herself. As Fred went on, sharing his own experience with being called a ‘freak’, Lilith fought hard to hold back tears. ”’Getting back’ how?” said Lilith, her voice quivering with both happiness and excitement. Something to end the abuse? She would do anything for such a reaction.
Turning slightly, and taking a second to regain her composure, Lilith sighed. Then she tossed her head back and said, ”How about we go somewhere else to continue talking? The hallways are rather public.” Turning back and grabbing Ginny’s hand, Lilith leaned back slightly, a smile burning holes into her face. From the windows, light glinted off her eyes, illuminating their colors. Where she intended to go, she really didn’t know. She kind of hoped they would have an idea, because a common room was out of the question. Even though Gryffindor had been the house she wanted, it wasn’t the one she was sorted into.

"yeah, we were, well somewhat are, the breaks of the school. we're the 'gingers in the poor big bamily that are blood traitors.'" ginny said with a shrug. "but we adapted quite nicely." she gave fred a little warning look, indicating that what he said was worded horribly, with the whole freak thing. she kept listening to fred, facepalming at his immature ways of handling things. but then again, ginny wasn't too great at handling situations and people either. "yes, bred would know about being the same making you a break." referring to how fred and george were commonly called clones. they were two separate people will two similar, but also very different personalities. it made her mad when people referred to them as clones. there were quite a few identical twins in the school, and none of the rest of them were called clones. hestia and flora carrows, parvati and padma patil, and fred and george. they were all very different people, despite their physical appearances.
"stuffy? well excuse me. i'm sure you wouldn't call george by such a degrading name." she said in a mocking tone. she blew her nose again. she walked over next to her brother, and wiped her handkerchief on his arm. "there, now you can be sick with georgie." ginny said with a satisfied grin on her face. she suddenly put a look of fake guilt of her face. "awe, i'm sorry that was a little mean? lets hug it out like siblings should with arguments." she said squeezing him into an obnoxious hug, spreading all of her sick germs on him. if she and george were to be sick, fred would be sick as well! ginny then just realized how tall fred had gotten. her had only reached about his shoulder and her arms only made their way around the middle of his back. why must she have been cursed with her mother's height?
she pulled away and grinned from ear to ear at lilith. "potions are your favorite? hm, well i supposed ib you're good at them, you'd like the class a bit." ginny said with a shrug. she was glad at the reaction lilith gave to her compliment about the eyes. "i think you have a little apprentice, breddie." she said as lilith asked about getting back at people. this would be amusing. she listened to the girl speak about the hallways being public. she nodded in agreement. "where should we go?"
ginny was rather surprised that lilith took her hand. she couldn't help but it think it was such an adorable gesture. she was like the little sister ginny never had. a look of pure awe was on her face. this had to be the cutest moment of her life. she gave fred a look that expressed how extremely endearing this was to her; then she realized she was still sick. ginny took one of the winter gloves she brought out of her pajama pockets (since she was sick she was pretty cold) and put it on her hand, and again held lilith hand. "this way you won't get sick." she looked to fred to where to go next.

Fred raised an eyebrow at the first year. Hearing something positive about Snape from a newbie was a rare situation. They man practically scared everyone under five feet. If looks could kill.. Hogwart's would be screwed. It'd be impossible to get to any class wihout stepping over a corpse seeing as Severus wasn't on good terms with many students in the castle. Indeed he does, I suppose. It's great that you like his teaching.. it'll help a lot with getting anywhere with potions. Of course he knew the potions master was a good teacher. But how did she know that? It took an observant person to look past the permanent scowl on the professor's face and actually recognize that the man was pure genius. The class, in general, wasn't Fred's favorite, but that was soon to change as he was catching onto the man running the course.
The ginger nodded in agreement as Ginny spoke. They really could relate with being a freak. The fact of the matter was, you weren't such a freak anymore once the first few people decided to get to know the person behind the hideous label. Nobody messed with the twins, or the Weasleys as a whole, for the most part. There'd always be ill feelings floating around the Slytherin Common Room, but nobody cared what they thought about anyone. You, my dear extravagantly eyed friend, are going to learn how to react the right way.. with dignity and authority. He smirked, just thinking about it. He was going to help her if it was the last thing he did. Helping her make a comeback was as good to Fred as directly pranking people that he, himself, despised.
He should have known something was coming in the midst of all his picking on his sister. Without warning, she completely and directly contaminated him with her nasty sick germs. Spazzing like a child with cooties, he scrunched his nose and shivered. Aghh.. nooo. SO uncalled for. Bleechh. Just..noooo. He knew it would happen sooner or later. Not that what Ginny had done was expected, but getting sick was. Something was going to happen that exposed him to the germs. A true Weasley never escaped a wave of illness. One got it, they all got it eventually. Not to mention Fred had yet to see an instance in which George wasn't feeling well without the same feeling rubbing off to him. He swore he and George were connected in that way. He wouldn't walk away from the illness unscathed if his twin didn't.
After his little episode of the immaturity he proudly strutted about with, he nodded at the two. Maybe standing there and discussing teaching a first year to become a violation of school conduct wasn't the best idea in the center of the corridor. This way, he gestured before taking off down the hall. Before too long, they had entered a small isolated hallway seldom used with a corner for them to sit at the end of its staircase. They had gotten there very quickly without being seen, of course, for it was practically his specialty since the moment he had snatched the marauder's map a couple years back. He had memorized that piece of parchment like the back of his hand. Make yourselves comfortable, there will be servants on the way to take your coats, he said tauntingly as if where they sat was at all glorious.
