Approx. May 1971
Tabitha Rees Montague set the baby down on the scratchy rug of in the middle of the living room of Malfoy Manner. She bent down to him and kissed him lightly on the head. "Be good, ok?" She whispered before turning and leaving the room, sliding two large oak doors closed behind her as she entered the kitchen.
Reaper Montague, 12 months old, held onto the side of the couch and pulled himself up. His wide blue eyes scanned the room eagerly for something he could destroy. The faint sound of death eater voices carried from the kitchen, whispering and then shouting. Reaper looked up at the doors, the sound of his father's voice raised above all others was soothing to him.
He then tried to walk the length of the couch and fell back onto the ground with a loud thump. The littlest Montague whimpered slightly but kept his cries to himself as he once more tried to pull himself up, one hand on the couch. He made it half way before he fell again. After three more failed attempts, Reaper let out a loud shriek of anger and slammed his small hands on the side of the couch.
He was about to stand up again when he heard the faint sound of rustling behind the couch. Turning over so that he was on his hands and knees Reaper crawled to the back of the couch, peering around the edge to see what had made the noise.

And I wished he would come back For he seemed to me again like a king in exile, uncrowned in the underworld [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=cellPadding,10,true] NOW CROWNED AGAIN !
Nagini had been warned that there would be a meeting today, and she had no wish to be overwhelmed by thunder and smells as humans congregated. Not to mention she often got very very bad headaches during the meetings ever since the change had occurred. Humans made more sense, but the translation was painful and awkward, making Nagini most unhappy when there were too many voices to concentrate on.
As such, the venomous serpent had made herself scarce and hid away under a couch in the adjoining room. Close enough to hear the master's call if needed, but far enough away not to feel smothered and achy. She had settled in well when she took in the familiar scent of a female brood member whom Nagini knew the Master to waver between indifferent and pleased with more often than not. With her was a new smell, that stayed when she left.
Sounds and rustlings followed, and the new smell proved to be something living. Flicking her tongue out several times, Nagini memorized the new scent before suddenly it made a sound. Instantly, Nagini knew she was in the close proximity to a human hatchling, and her maternal instincts kicked in almost seconds later when she heard the little one falling about.
Slipping out of her hiding spot, Nagini decided enough was enough the moment the hatchling wailed. As though the sound of her motion attracted the little ones attention, Nagini found herself facing it before she even rounded the couch.
Drawing her coils close, Nagini rose up and looked down at the little one. Although to another snake this would be an intimidating gesture, Nagini had learned communicating with humans was different. In this, she was evening their levels so the hatchling could see her eyes easily. One thing about all young things, was they sensed intentions better than adults. Nagini trusted the hatchling to know she meant him no harm.

Reaper giggled softly as the snake moved closer to him and rose up above him slightly. He immediately reached his hand up to touch the snakes slick green scales. His hand touched the snakes neck just below it mouth, sliding his hand down as if petting a dog Reaper laughed loudly. He watched the snake's eyes as he held his hand up to it, they were mesmerizing in both size and beauty.
"Sssssss" Although the boy couldn't form the word 'snake' he knew what sound the reptile made. His mother a very loyal follower of the Dark Lord had taught him about snakes from the day of his birth. Snakes were life to his family and Reaper was astonished now to be facing one so powerful. "Ssssssss" He repeated before giggling and petting the snake once more. After a few seconds of silence between them Reaper grabbed the cough and attempted once more to stand up, falling back on his butt as he did. He let out a large wail, his face screwing up in both anger and pain.
((sorry its short! next one will be better!!))

Nagini was still as the little one reached out to her, allowing the boy to touch without much worry to the matter. Though some may have been surprised to learn it, Nagini was fond of physical contact. She adored it whenever the Master stroked the top of her head, or ran a cool hand along her scales.
The little ones hand was warm, reminding her of a spot of sun on stone, and it moved in a repetitive motion that was rather pleasing. A sound of joy left the hatchling's lips and Nagini knew he was no longer upset.
A sense of amusement coursed through the serpent as the boy made a sound as though trying to speak the Tongue. She ever politely hissed back at him, telling him what a healthy human hatchling he was - for to snakes, a healthy hatchling was the most beautiful of all.
The little one patted her then, and resumed whatever mission he had been on prior to their encounter. The great snake watched as the boy tried to pull himself up, and failed with a thump she felt vibrate through her scales.
His wail was loud for something of his size - for Nagini knew the difference between adult humans and baby ones - and so the serpent moved forward, coiling herself around the child in an attempt to comfort.
She had seen, over the years, the way humans would wrap up around one another in greeting, or in times of sadness. She hoped that the close contact would help the babe be calmer, and to try and further assist this, Nagini moved her chin over the boy's hair, mimicking in a way how she herself had just been stroked.
