"ginny dear, would you like to go to diagon alley to puck up your school supplies?" ginny looked up from her book and smiled. she was glad to be getting out of the house. "yes, of course!" she said as she bounded from her bed. ginny grabbed her bag and ran downstairs. "well let me get a chance to get my things!" mum said as she started gathering her things. oh, mum was going with her. "mum, can i go by myself? i'm a big girl now." mum looked at her for a second and then nodded, gave her some galleons, and all this advice on how to stay safe. it was embarrassing, and she hoped none of her brothers were listening in on this conversation.
"yes mum, bye!" ginny said as she scurried out of the burrow. she desperately wanted to get to diagon alley to pick up items for school. mum had wanted to go with her, but she figured she was old enough to pick out her own items, and besides it got a bit embarrassing having your mum there with you. especially, when she picked out the most dull robes and promply pushed her away from quality quidditch supplies. once ginny was near or in quality quidditch supplies, there was no getting her out quickly or easily. her mum dreaded that store because there was no way that she could ever afford to buy a new broom for ginny. mum had practically followed her out the door saying things like be careful and stay safe, to which ginny replied with, 'a bunch of my friends will be there. i'll be fine.' it was kind of sweet how much her mother worried and cared about her. in the current events, ginny would be surprised if her mother wasn't acting like this.
after taking a portkey to diagon alley, which made ginny very dizzy, she ran all the errands she needed to. first, she took her wand to ollivanders to fix a rather large chip in the top (fred accidentally sat on it). while she waited for it to be mended back to perfection, she stopped over to the ice cream parlor and got herself some pumpkin ice cream and chatting with some friends while there. ginny ran back to ollivanders and obtained her wand, thanked the man, and gave him three galleons. she ran around town like a mad person trying to get everything done. after picking up a new robe for school and getting the books she would need (she was just glad her OWLS weren't until next year), she went back on her way home, that was, until she passed her favorite store.
quality quidditch supplies was looking as new and spiffy as it usually did, with the top brooms of the year right in the window. gin gawked at the new nimbus that was on display. it was black, sleek, and looked insanely fast. and the thing was, she already wanted it so badly. her broom was bill's old broom, which was a good broom, but it was old and was even starting to rot. the price of the broom made ginny's gaw drop. 45 galleons? that was very expensive. she heard some snickering behind her and recognized some slytherins eyeing her and laughing. they all carried this new broom, no doubt paid for by malfoy's father. it wasn't fair, they didn't deserve those brooms. these were the bad sides of having many siblings though. new broom or a bunch of brothers? her brothers obviously won. except for percy. kidding. kind of.
she stood outside the shop looking at the broom for a bit longer, imagining herself riding it, scoring goals with it, winning quidditch games with that fancy, spectacular broom. the broom she would never be able to have.

Fred had been up nearly the entire night with George, trying to figure out why a certain type of powder wasn't exploding the way they had wanted it to. It was very frustrating to go a whole night without being able to get very far with an idea that they had come up with. They were running out of time to work on new inventions , what with the school year coming around the corner. Little did they know, it wasn't going to be possible to easily hide anything from Umbridge once they got into Hogwart's. The thought put the twins on edge, well, as far from easy-going as they would ever get, and had them staying up very often.
He awoke to the sound of Ginny and Molly talking about getting school supplies. He peeked over at George and decided to slip into Diagon Alley once he saw that his brother was still fast asleep. A tired grin spread across Fred's face when he heard that Ginny was going alone. Diagon Alley, he whispered to himself while dropping floo powder after quietly sneaking into the fireplace. Normally, even finding the floo powder was a difficult task in the burrow due to the fact that Molly didn't want them running off without warning all the time. Luckily, with all of the experiments that Fred and George had been involved in recently, they had managed to grab a bottle of their own and it sat hidden on the top shelf in their closet.
He stumbled into a tight space between two shops and leaned against a stone wall until he saw Ginny walk by only seconds later. She stopped in front of a window , which contained a broomstick, as far as Fred could see. She would stop and look at Quidditch related supplies while she was supposed to be buying books. Acsendio.. he muttered while pointing his wand nonchalantly toward the broomstick behind the glass, chuckling when came right out of the shop's doorway and into the sky. It's a sign, Gin, it wasn't meant for you to ride. He came out into the center of the walkway and let out a small yawn before twirling his wand in his fingers. Suppose that wouldn't matter anyway..unless you had enough galleons to purchase both an expensive broom and a set of school supplies. I wreckin you're lucky I came along..you could be all out of coins by now.

ginny should have been aware of the whisper of the spell behind her, but quite frankly she was too engrossed in how much the broom shined and how the footrests were plated in gold. it almost gave her a heart attack when the broom flew right out of the shop and about ten feet into the sky. what the hell? the slytherin were no where in sight, so it couldn't have been them. then she heard an oh so familiar voice behind her and couldn't help but turn very slowly on her heels. she had a look on her face that death would be afraid of. "why do you always do that to me?" she asked, pulling a hermione and smacking fred with one of her newly purchased textbooks. potions. good, she didn't like that class anyway.
"better put the broom back in the store before they think we're trying to steal it!" she said, looking anxiously back and forth at the store and the broom, which was in pain view of the store owner. he gave them both a suspicious look and raised his eyebrows when he saw the broom floating just above them. he gave a look like 'you better be returning that, or i'm telling your mother.' really, there was nothing ever to say back to that. everyone knew the wrath of molly weasley. it was times like these she wished she had "accidentally" sat on fred's wand, like he had to hers a little while back. she wasn't that mad at him, more that she was just mad at the fact she couldn't get the broom. so naturally she took it out on the nearest person. didn't matter, fred knew ginny's temper wasn't much better than mum's.
ginny sighed and quickly took her own wand out to get the broom back in it's place. she mouthed 'sorry' to the owner, who just shook his head and continued his work. "like i would have enough galleons for a new brooms. mum gave me what she had, which was like, twenty galleons at the most. i've already spent most of it on books, fixing my wand," she said with a cough, indicating 'yeah, that was your fault, buddy', "got a new robe, and ice cream. so i reckon it's a miracle i still have money left." ginny held out three galleons. "good thing ice cream's only twelve sickles. but please, don't tell mum i wasted her money on pumpkin ice cream. it was just...so good." it was her favorite and she hardly got any. "so what brings you here...without george?" she said, questions in her eyes. the two were hardly ever away from one another. "wait, why are you even awake? it's 9 am in the summer, you two should still be sleeping." ginny tended to be an early riser.

Fred stood there with a smug grin on his face as Ginny ranted something about not stealing the broom or whatever. She really worried too much. The broom hadn't gone too far and the shop owner had seen Fred and George messing around dozens of times. Fred was surprised that the guy hadn't posted an undesirable number one poster in the shop window. He yawned and gave her a bored expression as she, herself, decided to return the broom to it's rightful place. His face twisted into a look that said 'Yea, I'll be back' as the owner glared at him for about a millisecond before returning to his work.
Aaw, he sees me all the time. We're practically friends, he scoffed. If George and I were thieves, he'd know it by now. He stepped back and chuckled lightly at her. Well, your reactions, of course. They're fairly amusing. And 'ey, watch it with the violence. Mum didn't give you galleons so you could go and ruin the binding on-- and he paused to see which book she had hit him with. Ah, potions, never mind then. Won't be needing that, he muttered. He wasn't terrible at potions, but he didn't like the class much. He had nowhere near the understanding in potions as he did in transfiguration, charms, and DADA. Sure, creating potions was easy, but not the way the books supplied. It was more useful to come up with your own.
Catching the look she gave him regarding her wand, he smiled sheepishly. An honest mistake, my dear sister.. he mumbled under his breath. Boy, was he tired. He gave her a slight eye roll at her next request. Mhm, as if I want mum to know something that will peeve her. For now, you're safe. You and your pumpkin fix..
As soon as she mentioned George, his mood conspicuously ( ) fell. He really hated being out without his twin and it made keeping up conversation awkward if he was with anyone outside of the family. After all, he was more accustomed to add to an idea by finishing George's thoughts rather than come up with his own. Although normal people are asleep at this hour, I heard mum trying to convince you to let her come with you. No point in staying home if Georgie was asleep. He had exaggerated the normal part to imply that Ginny didn't fall under that category as she was always up far too early for Fred's taste.
