Alright, mate. See ya soon! Saying goodbye to George was always a weird feeling for Fred..even for a short amount of time. There were rarely occasions in which they thought they should be separated. Being away from the other twin gave Fred an awkwardness that he otherwise didn't show. His ability to hold up a conversation was not particularly strong while he was on his own. Normally, he had George to come up with the thought, and he was there to finish it. Independence was something he'd never truly get used to. He let this thought cross his mind as he headed for his destination, parting ways with his partner in crime for the afternoon.
Sitting in the Common Room wasn't something that Fred did very often. It was sort of boring unless there were lots of other students. He'd normally be seen running about wreaking havoc with George. The reason for his being in the Gryffindor sanctuary was simple. He needed to see a certain someone, soon. The world depended on it. Well, Fred's world, anyway. It wasn't even too big of a deal, but he needed to hear the truth from a reliable source.
Fact of the matter was, he had noticed something about a good friend, Katherine Bell. The way she acted around his brother.. it was obvious to him that she was interested in furthering the relationship. He could no longer contain his thoughts, as he was an impatient person who wanted answers quickly. He sat in a chair, full of angst as his eyes followed student after student pass the entrance to the room in which he was. Finally, his target walked by.
Katie! He got up and proceeded to the door in order to lure the girl in. With a slight nod, he gestured for her to approach him. Got a minute, have you? I needta talk to you. He smiled lightly and stepped back out of the doorway.
ooc: i swear to you, my posts aren't usually this terribly dry. sorry about that! my muse is low for many reasons that don't need to be dumped on you, but i wanted to get this started(: hope it's okay.

"I'm not testing any more products for you," Was Katie's immediate response to Fred 'needing to talk to her'. She had been on the receiving end of the twins' pranks for years, and recently they'd asked her to try something they were now calling a puking pasty - they hadn't had the name before she tried it. Or if they had, they hadn't told her what it was. In any case, Katie was not in any sort of hurry to relive puking up everything she'd eaten that week. Even still, though, she blindly trusted Fred and followed him, readjusting her bag on her shoulder.
Katie had just come from the library, where she'd been working on a Potions essay. She was, undoubtedly, terrible at Potions. It wasn't that she was intimidated by Snape - on the contrary, he didn't scare her one bit - but rather that she just never quite got it right; she chopped things too thinly, or stirred to fast. The problem, Katie figured, was that she was so damn impatient and she just wanted the potion to be finished immediately. Instant gratification, that was her game. It was for this reason that the essay for the class was so slow going. It was due in a week, and while Katie would normally leave it to the last moment and work under pressure (pressure was the best thing to work under, as far as Katie was concerned) but she knew that she would fail without putting in the proper research.
And research made her just as sick as one of those sweets the twins were selling.
That might have been why she was so willing to follow Fred, because she was so tired from her studies that she'd have followed a bear into a cave if the damn thing told her there was a bed inside. "Am I in trouble, Freddie?" She asked, because suddenly she realized how serious he was being. Odd, for Fred. Besides that, it occurred to her that George wasn't there. Also odd. Usually it was George who sought her out, not his twin. Not to say that she and Fred weren't friends, Katie considered him one of her best, but that he didn't have the tendency to find her to hang out one on one; which meant it was likely that either something was wrong or he needed advice.

The girl's initial response was fairly comical for Fred. He tended to pick on Katie, Alicia, and Angelina more than anyone else. After all, they had the best reactions. At the same time, they were some of the twins' favorite people. Oh, comon. You didn't puke that much. We could've done worse, he taunted before gesturing for her to come into the room. A chuckle escaped him as he continued. We just tested our newest product on Ronnie. Your services aren't needed for the time being. I just want to speak with you. He returned to his seat and slumped into it lazily, putting his feet onto the small table in front of him.
He looked at Katie for a moment, gathering his thoughts. First thing was first, he had to begin casually. You weren't headed any place important, were you? He placed his hands comfortably behind his head. You may be. You've been keeping secrets, Miss Bell. He pretended to give her a serious scowl, but quickly lightened it as it required much more acting skill for him to act angry than he was capable of. I know him better than anyone. I pay more attention to him than any other human being on this Earth, and I pay attention to how other people act around him.
He smiled lightly, not wanting her to think he was ready to jump down her throat or something. Not that he would, but he didn't want just anyone messing with his twin. For Katie, it was acceptable. She wouldn't do something stupid, something to hurt George if she got too involved with him and then ended it. Fred was merely being protective of his other half, and it was normal behavior for the subject. George. You fancy him, don't you. It was more of a statement than a question. There was no holding back, no sugar-coating it. Fred was right and he knew it.
