Apparation seemed the most logical way to travel, particularly since the storm was closing in. Having accomplished his goal of retrieving an item from Gringotts Bank on an errand, Eric had begun to wander the nearly empty streets of Diagon Alley. Eric did not particularly mind the alone time, however, it did not take away from the fact that the drifter enjoyed the company of others. With the storm forming in waves, Eric figured this day was as good as any to grace the Malfoy's with his presence, and perhaps seek sanctuary from the oncoming havoc that was playing with the skies.
Wandering a bit further, Eric turned down a darkened alley, desiring privacy as he apparate, not willing to risk a splice. Diagon Alley was never a safe haven among dark wizards, let alone Death Eaters. Apparating, he focused to the best of his ability to ensure that he didn't splice or lose a limb upon arriving at the Malfoy Manor. With a loud, echoing pop, Eric was suddenly standing before the gates to a very familiar property. The property of a former House mate at Hogwarts, and a fellow Death Eater:
Lucius Malfoy.
While they were ex-house mates, and comrades through the Death Eaters, Lucius had always been more than either title could offer. The side that Lucius chose, be it Dumbledore's or Voldemort's would make little difference, as he was family to Eric. When Severus had been labeled a spy, it had been Lucius who had taken Eric under his wing. Regardless of the countless punishments Avery had suffered at the behest of the Dark Lord, he knew he could rely on one person to be there for him. There had never been a day that passed that Eric failed to think of Severus, or check every headline in the Prophet to make sure he was okay: However, he was certain that with his exposed neurotic symptoms, and love for Severus, he would not have made it without the help of the man he had looked up to since his first year at Hogwarts. He had once been close to Lucas, but it seemed their relationship had been severed with the death of his sister, Serenity.
Pushing into the gates, they swung upon, revealing the Malfoy property with a loud creak. His arrival had been unannounced, and Eric wondered if Lucius would be just as excited about seeing him, as he would be in regards to reunited with the Malfoy's. Reaching the main door, Eric knocked before standing exhausted outdoors awaiting an answer. tag: Lucius;; Notes: My apologies that I fail at starters. template by eliza @ shadowplay |

The two of them couldn't be more opposite sides of the same coin, for as Avery trudged through the rolling heat, wet night of earthen mud and the occasional brisk breeze. Lucius Malfoy found his most troublesome query as to why it was taking his house elf so bloody long to refill his wine glass. Still he took a longing sip and it cooled him from mouth to heart, forgoing the pencil pushing endeavors his work forced upon him for tonight. Tonight would be a more hands on approach.
Lucius smirked a devilish smirk as his light forget me not blue eyes traced over the pure silver serpent headed staff in his study as he'd heard pounding on the door, as the door opened he was ever more surprised to see an old friend. An old acquaintance and fellow death eater. It was nearly more than he could ask, he'd needed a few good men for tonight and it seemed as if providence is kind.
His face contorted to what one might consider is kindness and concern, if Lucius Malfoy had either of these things for anyone but himself. His tone of voice relaying such sentiments, mixed with a healthy measure of shock given the sudden appearance at his doorstep and hearth. "Eric!.." he looked to his house troll and gave it a stern kick and a "Attend to our guest!" this burst of rage and contempt was capped off with said sharp kick to the elf, nearly sending him careening before he steadied himself and offered to take Avery's coat.
As if flipping some switch he spoke cordially to Avery then "Come in out of the elements, have a cold drink. What brings you here tonight? I was JUST endeavoring to owl you." he pressed a hand against his friend's shoulder and then his back to lead him to a room with long, dark colors, blacks, purples, with an even longer table, and so many chairs. He gestured for his friend to take a seat before making his way to the bar nearby, his expression obscured by the back of his head, and long, platinum mane.
"How have you been...keeping? what with the change in atmosphere for people like us." of course, this was something like a subtle way of asking what he'd been doing since the Dark Lord had returned and reasserted himself amongst the death eaters. He wondered if their lord had sent him on any missions or given him any measure of assignments since that fateful day in Little Haggleton. He could remember Avery crying out, truth be told it had been all that Lucius could do to keep from the same. He closed his eyes, remembering that day, remembering the scraping of his knees as he fell to them in pious penitence.
"..Even you...Lucius!"
Those words had haunted him, he'd been brought to their level with a single, solitary sentence. Even amongst the death eaters he was always something remarkable, extravagant among peers. He'd been the only one that the Dark Lord had bequested with -unbeknownst to him- a horcrux, who he'd let into his innermost circle, who had plotted and schemed with the dark lord on how to establish the world they dreamed of, a pure, great world. No other could, none of them were as calculating. None of them really shared his vision. And yet Lucius had never been so marginalized in his entire life, never made to bow and scrape before anyone. But he was able to regain his favor with the dark lord. And that was why he'd concocted something that he though his friend. Avery, might just want in on.

Peering over the house troll whom had answered the door, Avery's eyes met Lucius' ice blue ones, as he gave a curt nod in greeting. Avery, the darker and more sadistic side of Eric, had proven to be the more dominant of his split personality, as it automatically took hold when in the presence of Death Eaters and their Dark Lords. Regardless, the Eric who was currently repressed, had not seen the light of day in many years, perhaps a crueler sentiment regarding Eric's condition.
Avery's lips turned into a thin line, as he smirked cruelly at the house troll who had been reprimanded accordingly. “Evening, Lucius.” He stated with a more pleasant smile. First spelling his shoes to not track in the mess from outside, Eric cleaned himself off before stepping into Lucius' domain, briskly dropping his long overcoat on the house troll. Sneering as the house troll struggled in a vain attempt to escape its new entrapment, that was the wizards coat, Avery forcefully turned to the troll in the direction of the door. Kicking the trolls rump, he grinned gleefully when it fell on its face outside of the mansion and shut the door coldly behind it. Offering no explanation, Avery glanced up at Lucius who now demanded his attention in his own subtle nature.
“Much obliged.” Avery stated showing his gratitude, crossing to take a seat where Lucius had intended him to sit. “The usual brings me to your door, Lucius. I do apologize if I've come at an inconvenient time.” Radiating confidence, he studied his friends features as Lucius announced that he had been preparing to utilize owl post to get in touch. Curiosity spiked, Avery crossed his legs, cocking his head back in surprise. “Is that so? And what is it, pray tell, that you wish to get in contact with me about? What is that brilliant mind of yours scheming this time?”
Avery knew Lucius well enough to know that he didn't often write to shoot the breeze, though he was pleasant enough. He could rule out a few possibilities. Lucius was not in trouble, nor was his family if he was within the manor. That much was relieving. Forcing himself not to make assumptions, Avery remained patient awaiting to hear Lucius' explanation, which was inevitably coming.
Wincing internally, not allowing the expression to cross his face as Lucius asked how he was holding up, Eric closed an eye in response. “I reckon I'm holding up the same as the rest of you. No new change of pace to mention on my part, unfortunately. I have been earning enough to scrape by at the very least.” He admitted. “I've just been drifting. It's easier to push less welcome thoughts from ones mind, when they do not sit upon idle hands, don't you agree?” Drawing in a breath Avery grinned. “It's easy enough to find shelter, a few imperio's on a couple of muggles will buy a day or two...”
The fact of the matter was that Avery had faced the truth, and in his case running seemed a better option. If he ran, he could not become overly attached to the people in his past that haunted him. “Don't worry though, I assure you I haven't gone weak.” He refused to allow Lucius, who had always been a bigger brother in his eyes, to believe he had become more of a mouse in their time apart. The repressed personality of Eric might or might not beg to differ, Avery simply did not care. If his other side had a spine, there would be no need for his existence, and unlike his other side, he knew it was there.
Avery knew well of the event in which Lucius was actually referring. “There's nothing I can do to change the past, so I try not to dwell on it. The Dark Lord is back, and now all that's left to do is give him those fifteen years he demanded to make up for time lost.” Shrugging, Avery leaned forward to give Lucius his full attention. “So tell me.” He began, not letting the topic slide. “What are you scheming? How have you been, it's been too long, Lucius.” tag: Lucius;; Notes: <3 template by eliza @ shadowplay |
