Her father is a pureblood and an auror in the Ministry of Magic. Her mother is a doctor. She has few fond memories with her parents as a child. She can remember a quiet Christmas when, for once, the holiday hadn’t been turned into a work party for the pair of them, and another time when the family had visited the Versailles in France the summer before she started her first year at Hogwarts. Otherwise, her father is usually away while her mother works long, rigorous shifts at the hospital. Ariana rarely complained. From a young age, she had understood that her mommy and daddy need to work a lot, but they love her very much. Hence, Ariana never rebelled against them and always stayed out of their way. She supposed that work was her parents’ common ground. They probably stayed married so long because they understood and respected each other’s careers.
It was understood that Ariana would never get in the way of her parents’ affairs, which meant that she would be quiet during mealtimes and it also meant that her time with them was limited. After an incident when she was four years old at the wizard hospital where her mother worked (in which Ariana had been mistaken by another patient and had had a needle injected in her that made her sick), Ariana never wanted to go back. Thus, her parents hired a nanny who was neglectful and often took naps in the drawing room of their home. Left to her own devices, Ariana didn’t have the chance to connect with children her age. Eventually, Ariana learned to sneak out of the house on her own and developed an independent nature as well as an unusually good knowledge of the streets of London. The libraries were her destinations, where she could read whatever she could get her hands on.
Now that she’s older, the concept of having workaholic parents is becoming harder for Ariana to cope with. They never took her outside of the city much, so Ariana doesn’t fare well in nature. She is an awkward flier because she never experienced open air. They never disciplined her directly. They never taught her about feelings and empathy either. Faced with emotional problems, adolescence and academic stress, Ariana now finds herself stuck in a situation where she wants to tell her parents, but keeps putting it off simply because they would be busy. Ariana still has the very best things. Money was never a problem. Her parents provided enough for her to have nice coats and scarves. She had been spoiled as a child and still is. The similar smell of the air around her made the freedom she much needed come out. No it wasn't home where her grieving mother was, it was her home. Her small group of friends hung around even though she didn’t really do much or say much. The clicking of feet became more rapid as she paced down the hall, heels clicking at each step. Ariana's face was calm and sullen as it normally was, except anyone who knew her close enough that this was just a facade.
The porcelain skin made her way towards the large doors of the Slytherin Common Room and took a breath. She was out of her mom's grasp by the time she had come in late for school. Charlotte wasn't able to let go but oddly enough, Ariana didn't care. She didn't miss him one bit, he gave her whole family trouble that was unneeded. Her slim hand reached out and touched the door as she whispered the password softly in no hurry to get inside.
The long black curled hair bounced slightly against her bare shoulders, her black dress clung to her side as she walked into the Common room. Part of her mind raced to her...friend? Would she call them that? Weird things happen at night so she wasn't so sure. Ariana cleared her throat slightly before walking into the green lights dancing around the cold and dark room, her greenish gray eye's followed every movement of the lights and the small dim shadows that disappeared and moved around every now and then because of the fish swimming above.
