It was a crisp Saturday afternoon, the chill in the air becoming quite more pronounced in the transition from fall to winter. Normally, the students could be seen all over the Hogwarts grounds on the weekends, but not today. No, the Toad had decided that all the students should spend this exact day stuck inside the school to study. Now, while Minerva McGonagall was not against the idea of the students actually studying for once, she didn’t think they should be forced to do so, least of all by the Toad. In fact, that was probably the main reason she was against the whole thing. Umbridge had enlisted her help in supervising some of the students earlier, but as soon as it was possible, Minerva had excused herself and made her way outside. She needed to get away from that insufferable woman, even if it was only for a short amount of time.
She had wandered the grounds for a bit, enjoying the quiet time away from the things happening in the school. She was just passing the quidditch pitch when movement in the corner of her eye caught her attention. No one was supposed to be out there at the moment, so she decided to investigate. As she turned and headed towards the entrance that would take her actually onto the field, Minerva could see someone flying around in circles. Shaking her head, she made her way out onto the pitch and looked up, trying to see just who it was that was disobeying the rules. When the offender flew close enough for Minerva to get a good look, she realized it was the youngest Weasley. Ginny wasn’t usually a rule breaker, and so she was slightly surprised at this act of rebellion. Though, if it was directed at the Toad, she didn’t mind so much. “Miss Weasley!” she yelled, hoping the young girl could hear her. “Please come down here for a second.”

Ginny was sick and tired of all the rules being placed on the school. Just a few months of the toad being here and so much was already changing. Several rules came into effect, and many of them were just bloody degrading or downright stupid. Fred and George nearly had a field day when their Weasley products were banned. That, of course, wouldn't stop them, but the whole idea of their fun items not being appreciated had them mad. Ginny and Michael couldn't be within certain range of each other, and had to sneak in a snog here and there. It was preposterous. Especially today when the toad announced that they would all spend the beautiful Saturday studying for exams. Ginny was certainly not one to just sit in the common room reading her History of Magic book; and besides, she didn't have O.W.Ls until next year! She didn't have to worry about school, it was only her fourth year and she was doing fine in most of her classes (herbology and potions were iffy, but she was passing). Next year, she certainly wasn't going to end up like Bill, who had somehow obtained twelve O.W.Ls. That's why, of course, Gin always bought him a book for his birthday or Christmas, because he was just so bloody intelligent. Most people were complaining about the studying; even Hermione who was very book smart and enjoyed reading and such. Ginny decided she wasn't going to go along with this rubbish. She put down the Transfiguration textbook she was pretending to read and take notes on, and slid slyly out of the common room.
She was out in the corridor with nothing on her except her wand. What was Ginny going to do for the day? Anywhere she went she risked getting caught by Umbridge. That was just a risk Gin was going to have to take if she was 'fighting the system' as the muggles say. She technically already was by joining Dumbledore's Army, what would being a little disobedient do? Get her that barbaric quill that etched words into her skin when she wrote? Luckily, she had not been exposed to such methods of punishment yet, but Harry had of course. His hand was scarred and bruised because of it. The red head was starting to think this was a bad idea afterall. She didn't really want to get hurt, or get in trouble and have mum find out. Ginny shivered at the thought, but figured since she was already out of the room, that she would carry on with her plan. She started walking slowly down the hallway, putting a finger to her lips as each portrait was about to question her. Most of them hated Umbridge as well, so they didn't much bother the rule breaker. She didn't run into any ghosts, such as Headless Nick and Peeves(if she ran into Peeves, she was doomed). Before she knew it, her feet took her downstairs and outside. Ginny unknowingly traced the path of the school that she used to get to the Quidditch Pitch. She nearly chuckled to herself when she found herself standing in the middle of the pitch. "I'll just go ride my broom, then." she smiled to herself and made her way to the Quidditch shed, where all the equipment was placed.
"Alohomora." she pointed her wand at the door and watched it open. That was surprisingly easy. Ginny climbed over all of the the stuff until she got to her broom, one of the oldest of the bunch. She hopped over things until she made her way out with the Cleansweep. Ginny closed the door and walked back into the center of the Pitch. She checked for any immediate signs of Umbridge or her Inquisitorial Squad, and when she saw nothing, mounted her broom and took off. It felt great to be in the air, as it usually did. It was so free and relaxing. Her hair flew around her like red waves in an ocean (for lack of better analogy), and her cape flew behind her wildly. Ginny considered shrugging off her cape, since it slowed down her ride, but decided against it. Who knows where it might land? Ginny stuck to flying in circles, trying out fancy moves that she wouldn't dare do if she knew someone was watching her. First, she stood straight on the broom and balanced for a few seconds, and then she laid down on her back on the broom, holding on to just the bottom. Lastly, she sat on the broom and made it do a somersault in the air, almost falling right off of the Cleansweep. Won't be doing that again! she thought to herself. Ginny then just did some laps around the large arena, just enjoying the thrill of riding. She never noticed the professor several feet below her. That was, until she heard her name in a worried voice.
"Huh?" Ginny said frantically, trying to make out the figure below her. Please don't be the toad. PLEASE don't be the toad. She thought to herself as she squinted hard towards the ground. In the process, she nearly crashed into the commentor stand, and had to maneuver quickly around it. While avoiding the commentor box, Ginny came close to falling right off her broom. Now that, would not have been pleasant. Ginny started flying lower until she could see who the professor was. Immediate relief came rushing into her as she saw the familiar green robe and pointed hat with the feather. "Professor McGonagall!" She shouted, more shocked than anything. "Oh yes, of course." Ginny did as her head of house told her, and came down to ground level. Gin dismounted her broom and walked over to McGonagall with the Cleansweep in one hand. She didn't know how the Professor would react to her breaking to the rules. "I'm sorry Professor. I know I shouldn't have been out here. But..." she said trailing off.

The old witch’s emerald eyes followed the young Gryffindor as she made her descent toward the ground. It seemed as if the youngest Weasley was stalling. Probably trying to make out which professor had caught her, and make sure it wasn’t Umbridge. Minerva didn’t blame her. She wouldn’t want to be a student in trouble with the Toad. She gasped when Ginny almost collided with the commentator stand and subsequently almost slid right off her broom. She was very protective of all her Gryffindors, but she was even fonder of the Weasleys and would never want any harm to come to Ginny. The flying figure came even lower before Minerva heard Ginny’s voice call out her own name in recognition. She waited patiently for the girl to land, debating how to view the obvious rule breaking.
When Ginny finally approached her, Minerva plastered on the expression that most students saw her with every day. One of a teacher not be messed with. She listened to the apology and half explanation, her demeanor unchanging. “You are correct, Miss Weasley,” she started, her way of greeting her Gryffindor pupil. “You are not supposed to be out here now. May I ask what possessed you to disobey the rules?” she asked, still trying to seem like she was upset. Ginny wasn’t known to be a trouble maker, rather a student who did her work and rarely complained. Minerva was somewhat surprised that the girl was breaking the rules in the first place. But truthfully, if Ginny answered in an acceptable way (which Minerva was pretty sure she would do), perhaps she would let it slide. She didn’t want to punish her anyway. What student wouldn’t want to be out on a day like this? It was wrong for Dolores to force everyone to stay inside. Words: 294 Notes: I hope it's enough for you to go on. Let me know if it's not.
