The sun above was blazing hot, far too hot for the time of year. Humans as well as animals were physically weakened by the odd strength of the sun, trudging around as if they were about to keel over. It was all very tragic, for elderly and the young were very prone, and some had already passed due to the heat wave. Grass and flowers and trees were all visibly drooping, low to the ground and brushing that beneath them, hirsty and in need of strength. However, it would not be allowed.
An unbalancing had occurred, something that should have never again happened. Things were out of place, yet for some, very much in their rightful place, ready to start a plan that would forever change how the word saw muggles, and to forever make those of pureblood the effectual overlords of the world. It was all very precise, and certain things would have to be accomplished for it to happen, among those being the death of a certain boy.
After years of living off of the bare minimum, the Dark Lord had returned. After being nearly destroyed by a simple child, he was ready for his revenge. He was ready for his power to reign supreme, and he was ready for the honor that he deserved. His ancestors would be proud of his actions, as he planned the demise of those filthy mudbloods that wandered the halls of a school far to magnificent for their bloody eyes. Only the best would attend Hogwarts after the Dark Lord had his way, and no exceptions would be made.
Blistering and bright, the sun could kill someone at this rate. However, it had no affect on He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. Though he wasn’t walking along the streets, rather flying through the air at such a speed that very few would notice the black smoke that drifted through the sky, he was still cool beyond that of any other person in his situation. Spells and natural adaptations benefitted him now, and no t a single drop of sweat fell from his precious head, not a single sign escaped his lips, brought on by the heat and the frustration with it. He was comfortable within his own rights, and he was even more comfortable with the thoughts of his future residence.
It wasn’t at all long before he was at the place of his destination. The thick iron gates were as though invisible to the Dark Lord. He passed through them quite easily, as though they were not in existence. The gardens were lovely, and many of the creatures were hid in the shadows, even the peacock who so enjoyed chasing after the visitors. The Lord of Darkness was not a visitor, rather, a future occupant, and one to stay clear from at that. The path was short enough, and the Dark Lord walked it, at his own slow pace. His black robes would have glistened in the sunlight, made from fine fibers, if they didn’t seem to eat the light that shone down on them. His wand was tucked away comfortably within in the layers of fabric, the Lord feeling no threat from the outside world. After all, who would dare point their wand at such a figure as he? As he neared the door, the sun seemed to dim, and the rain clouds washed in as the tide would bring in the body of a dead sailor after a storm. The Lord had no intention of controlling the weather, but rather, it presented itself to him in the most odd of ways, and since his return, had been increasingly stranger. He would soon have to put an end to its mischief, but until that day, he would enjoy his natural command over nature.
He had just stepped under the veranda when the rain fell, instantly creating puddles deep enough to drown in and wide enough that crossing would require a small boat. There was no wind, just an everlasting down pour that could wipe away a small village if it so chose to do. He didn’t mind, rather, savoring the moment. After all, it wasn’t every day that you have the appropriate time to step out of the ailments just as they started. Unless, of course, you were the Lord himself.
He turned to the door, a large, strong door. Perfect, the Dark Lord thought. He extended his hand, though the flesh of his knuckles never collided or even made the motion to knock on the wood. Instead, he simply raised his hand, and the loud, heavy boom proceeded, as though a giant were at the door. And, in fact, there was. A giant so powerful, the world would soon be cowering at his feet.

A single figure had sat in pensive study in one of the varying studies of the Malfoy manor, his cold forget me nots tracing, listing over the dark words etched on the parchments and notaries before him, a fire roared in the marble fireplace behind as two dogs, white as their albino peacock housemates lay at their master's dark clad feet.
Of the peacocks- though many meandered the property- the most ready example lay clasped between his fingers as he wrote with a quill of theirs, unmatched beauty and extravagance, the touch, the feel and texture of the writing utensil was just one of any manner of "finer things" an epicure like Lucius Malfoy; in his decadence; surrounded himself with.
While the work he busied himself with was important, drafting a new piece of anti-half breed wizard legislation akin to the anti-werewolf legislation proposed by Umbridge, he knew what awaited at the door was infinitely more urgent and required his greatest attentions. The Dark Lord could be both fickle and tempermental, Lucius had not fooled himself so naively to think that the man cared for him enough to spare him his wraith if he so felt the ire or urge.
The Dark lord was beyond caring, he knew no love.
As such only moments after he'd set the fire and the weather inexplicably turned he found himself nearly running to the hearth of his home, he'd apparated to the door before even his house elf could manage to clasp the golden handle of it, swatting the creature away within the sight of the master as he'd cracked the door only slightly ajar, insisting on meeting him personally. Brokering the disrespect of allowing a servant to meet Voldemort could be fatal.
Although Malfoy's dark mark was a clear indicator on his forearm who was behind that vaunted wood, he could feel the presence; the power of the wizard reverberating from behind the door without such an implement. Still, as he brought the door open and the wind took his long blonde hair and dark flowing robes, immaculate and fine, billowing; his voice and expression were shocked to see the darkened figure that haunted his doorway.
"My...my Lord! I'm...beside myself..that you'd grace me with your presence." his voice had a slight quaver, that might be indicative of shock, surprise or awe, but regardless first Lucius met his master's gaze and then bowed in a very curt manner, it wasn't much, but likely what could best be expected from one who grew up in the lap of luxury, this man was of course used to receiving exultation not giving it after all. Still he more than knew his place considering he knew this man's power.
Lucius's snake headed cane had been resting on his forearm and he jostled it slightly until it slipped into his palm's grip simultaneously pressing it to the floor and moving aside so that the dark lord might enter with a gesture of his other hand to show his welcome. "Please. Come in out of the elements. Tell me how I may be of service." with the remaining gesture he'd caned his house elf, shoving it aside callously with the ebon walking implement so to clear a path for the Dark Lord. He didn't know why he was here, he'd been hiding out in remote locales until now, but Lucius had a feeling those days were over as he looked to the dark one, affixing his robes after prostrating himself so. There was a good bit of anticipation on his part as he awaited the word of the Dark Lord although the stone faced Lucius Malfoy, ever elegant and the epitome of composure; betrayed no such emotion. Remaining merely the magnanimous host and servant.

words // 396 // outfit // clicky // tagged // Lucius & Voldemort witch gone insane, - C L E A R T H E W A Y M U G G L E , M A K E S O M E R O O M - It always seemed to be Bellatrix that ended up caught in the sudden storms she knew the Dark Lord caused himself. A slight growl erupted from her chest once again as she flicked her soaked hair from her face using her wand. Her walking was slow after she figured there was nothing on her not wet already; her steps deliberate and powerful. Her posture said she owned the very ground she walked on, however it was simply an illusion brought on by her heightened confidence in herself. The evil witch made her way through the streets, on her way to see her beloved Cissy, cackling wickedly as young children would peak out of their windows only to be pulled back from someone inside: no doubt their parents. An evil little smirk made its way upon her lips as she approached the large, heavy gates surrounding the Malfoy Manner. It had been quite a while since she’d last seen her dear sister, but something was different within the house. There was a presence that, seconds later, made her arm itch as the Dark Mark squirmed in recognition of its Master. A wicked grin took the features of Bellatrix, her anticipation of reaching her sister’s house now heightened.
Staring past the bars of the gate, Bellatrix’s mind became over-run with the possibilities of why her Lord was at the Malfoy residence. Grimacing, she whipped her wand out, forcing the gates open with haste. Running the rest of the distance proved challenging, as her heels caused her to hold herself upright. Shuffling under the grand veranda, the woman could feel the presence of her Lord burning through the house. He had entered moments ago, as it were. A thought struck her, however, that it may not be the Lord’s intentions to see her today. Biting her lip slightly, she banged her fist noisily on the door, looking too much like a pitiful wet dog: her hair slicked back against her head and back, clothing clutching to her skin from the rain. A look of minor fury shone through her dark features, upset at being left in the rain for as long as she had already. Banging again, the impatient Bellatrix did all but kick the door. Her intention was to ask for her Cissy, and not mention the Dark Lord unless he was brought up or called for her.

Lucius seemed to be an able bodied Death Eater, his family respectable, his wife a sister to Bellatrix. However, there was always something very odd about how Lucius held himself, how he spoke. It led the Lord of Darkness to thinks very traitorous things about the man before him now. However, he hardly let the thoughts in now as he entered the mansion, his eyes wandering over the furnishing. This was anything but a modest home, and the Dark Lord quite enjoyed it. He stepped forward, past Lucius. The home had a feel to it, something that was a future for a very strong organization, or perhaps that was just the Lord’s thinking. For quite some time, the Lord had a certain uncertainty, a certain doubt in his mind. There was something tugging at that, at that doubt, that was driving the Dark Lord insane. Something was outside of his knowledge, something that he needed almost desperately. For some reason, it would seem he was here, looking for an answer. Of course, he had had this planned for some time, but it seemed odd to the Lord that he was here, within the Malfoy Manor, looking for a way to gain that which he did not at that time have.
He turned to Lucius for hardly a moment before starting to pace about the room. ”I have a request for you. Or, perhaps, several,” he spoke, calm, smooth and low.
Firstly, this home would be his to command his army from. The inevitable would happen; as everyone had suspected this would become the base of his operations. Based from the home of a wealthy, loyal, strong pureblood home, there would be no doubt about what the Lord wanted his army to become. There would be no doubt about where he was located, but no ministry worker would ever find a death eater in the house. Voldemort was not as dumb as to let the Ministry find any reason to put the Malfoy’s away. He needed them here, without much suspicion, helping to gain what he wanted.
Secondly, he needed something. That something was hidden away in the Ministry. He was uncertain. And that needed to end, as the Dark Lord had no room for doubt, for error, or for traitors. However, the Lord would be far too busy strengthening his army to have to deal with such a thing, and Lucius worked with in the Ministry. With the cons and pros taken into perspective, Lucius would be the one to deal with his current problem. As the knock came, the Lord Voldemort felt a familiar presence and turned to Lucius. ”Don’t keep our dear Bella waiting too long, she may have a temper.”

Lucius found himself swallowing hard, as if a stone were in his throat then as the master entered his domain, his home, his sanctum. It was said every British man's home was his castle, the immediate instant the dark one set foot through the vaunted threshold Lucius could almost feel the vexing surge of power leaving him, this place was no longer any of those things to him now. One more thing that was once his, that was now Lord Voldemort's. Somehow he knew what this man intended with his home, the sacred place the Malfoys hung their hat and made their hearth since time immemorial.
It was no small thing, yet with gumption and out of necessity Lucius was able to compartmentalize his misgivings and bid them adieu as was necessary of him as a death eater and a lieutenant of Lord Voldemort."Anything you require is yours but for the asking my lord. If it is in my power to grant." it was a whirl of pale blonde hair as he'd heard the thunderous rapping on the door, frantic as if they were set upon by the Order or one of Arthur Weasley's raiders looking for Black Magic curios.
How that pauper loved to flaunt his authority over his betters.
The anger that welled in him would've seethed and grown further had he not been snapped out of it by the likes of the master himself who indicated whom it might actually be, which made sense given she was both close with her sister and Voldemort's top zealot.
The "Of Course." that emanated from Lucius's lips was a near grumble both to affirm the dark lord's assertion of who it was and that she had a temper on her. As he reached for the door he couldn't help but think that at least this time she'd had the common courtesy to knock.
His mind, and pale, forget me not blue eyes oft played the trick on him that the woman he was looking at was that of his own wife given their shared similarities, seeing Bellatrix sopping wet like a stray left out in the rain was not one of those times. "No need to break down my door Bellatrix. Come in." his tone was quite calm and cool, there were measured traces of both surprise, as he was quite perturbed, and even castigation given she was assailing his door in fury with no rhyme or reason. Any concern he had in his voice one might consider was for his comrade in the rain, but rather after he stepped aside for the drenched and disheveled woman, he looked to his door making sure she hadn't left a mark in her frenzy. Of course he was civil with her, not so much for the reasons the other death eaters were, -fear, and respect- but much moreso because as his sister-in-law he'd have to hear it from his wife if he was unkind to her.
As he looked her over he continued then,"Bella... Nevermind." thinking that it might be best to ask her to use the service entrance that the House Elves and other help used given that they were oft dirty and wet and not wanting anything else to track into his home. Again, he knew he'd catch hell for that.

words // 399 // outfit // clicky // tagged // Lord Voldemort & Lucius witch gone insane, - C L E A R T H E W A Y M U G G L E , M A K E S O M E R O O M - Had the Dark Lord not been sitting within the mansion, Bella would have intruded, not bothering to announce her arrival until she was well within the house. However, the circumstances being what they were, she had indeed felt the need to be a little more polite than usual. As Lucius opened the door, however, Bellatrix forced her way in before he had properly invited her to do so. Pushing past him, she replied in a rather annoyed and unbecoming voice. ”Perhaps, my dear brother-in-law, had your bloody SERVANT-” she stopped briefly to ruthlessly kick the house elf nearest to the door, ”done its job, there wouldn’t be a reason for me to.” Her voice was child-like, swaying with emotions she put behind them. Behind her trailed a pooling mass of rain-water; her skirt having taken most of the brutal elements, escorting them inside. As Lucius addressed her once again, she lifted her head up curiously to listen. Then he called her off, gaining a nasty look from the Death Eater. His worrisome looks, as he attempted to mask them, upset her- pitting her instantly against him.
”Lucius?” she asked, quite sarcastic in her attempt to sound respectful. ”Is there not another whom she should be attending to?” she spoke, grinning wickedly. Then she turned abruptly and walked into the next room, where she was quite aware the Dark Lord stood. Upon seeing him, she ducked her head, her level of respect rising dramatically. ”Good evening, my Lord.” She didn’t dare ask him why he was sheltering in the Malfoy manor this evening; rather instead, she bowed slightly and backed away to go in search of her Cissy. As it were, she had not been invited to stay and converse with the Dark Lord, and she would rather let Lucius have his moment: firm in her belief that she was the Dark Lord’s favorite. This man, her Cissy’s unworthy husband, could not possibly hand a place in the Dark Lord’s mind, for even Bellatrix could see the betrayal that stained his eyes. It made her laugh, really, to know such a man existed within the Dark Lord’s ranks. For she knew, eventually, he would receive what he deserved.
”Lucius?” she asked, barely above a whisper. ”Quick. Where is my Cissy?” The endearing nickname for her younger sister rung with true curiosity, her eyes lifting to stare into Lucius’ with little affection.

Normally Lucius would show some measure of animosity or displeasure to the likes of Bellatrix Lestrange when she so brought him to the end of his tether. Years in Azkaban hadn't changed her temperament in accordance with her physical disposition, unfortunately after one had been so chummy with dementors he'd suspected an attitude adjustment where there clearly was not one to be had.
But Lucius, unlike the very vast majority of his Death Eater brethren had more patience than the length of his heirloom Malfoy family cane. He pressed a meticulously manicured hand to his white collar and affixed his pristine white sleeves. He hadn't turned to face his sister-in-law and rather than listening to her attempts at sarcastic "respect". He spoke then"Your sister. My wife has responsibilities, duties, certain expectations asked of her. I'm her husband, not her keeper." the manner in which he spoke seemed as if he were laying claim to the woman in question, or perhaps simply adding this annotation knowing that the two of them were divisive to each other.
Regardless finally he looked to her, his blue eyes tracing over the dark figure that was his sister-in-law. He nearly chortled, suppressing a scoff of disgust and a look of amusement as she bowed and scraped within the presence of the dark lord. Of course he engaged in such behavior when he needed to, but he at least had dignity, or he tried to keep some semblance of it. Lucius spoke then "Of course you're correct dear sister-in-law. There is someone I should be acquiescing to. Lest it be said that Lucius Malfoy is an inattentive host. My lord, perhaps you would prefer to retire to one of the more prepossessing rooms in my humble chateau? Or some other small comfort Malfoy Manor may offer?" the death eater's hands held akimbo palms up in a very welcoming and warm expression akin to a new and much more humble, servile tone.
It was exceptionally unbecoming of the Lord of Malfoy manor(or so he reckoned) for him to fidget or play with his hair or trappings in anyway, the child of an aristocratic well to do, high class family such behavior was shunned from an early age. Be that as it may there was a measure of nervousness and anxiety to be had, why was he here? why now? what did he want? was he angry? so many thoughts swam in his head, and so he'd began turning one of the many rings on his fingers with his opposite hand, allowing his cane to sit securely on his forearm. Likely his wedding ring or some such. He had to admit a measure of jealousy when looking to Bellatrix. She was the favored, she could do no wrong, rotting in Azkaban for over a decade, eating bugs and kissing dementors, she didn't accidentally destroy a horcrux, part of his soul! He'd used the excuse of the Imperius curse to stay in power, to forgo punishment for his crimes, where once he was enough in the lord's esteem, enough to be considered his field commander in most respects and easily the most cunning, tactical and manipulative of the dark lord's servants, that night...that night in little Haggleton graveyard, he'd been admonished but forgiven, was it real?
Did he still trust Lucius? any slip up by the disgraced death eater could result in not only his own censure and punishment but that of his family. In the darkest recesses of his mind he held a horror of this snake man climbing the vaunted steps of Malfoy Manor, hearing the words
Avada Kedavra Seeing the flash of wicked jade. Seeing the limp form of his loving wife strewn about the bed, spread eagle, his hands cupping her chin and caressing her head, raking her hair carefully, closing her eyes, kissing them and holding her to him. And Draco, his boy, he could see in his minds eye the boy scared, alone, in the dark, surrounded by the others masked and obscure, so alone, so helpless, so frightened. Lost in his thoughts as he was, he cleared his throat then, snapping himself back to reality, it was a testament to his character and inner strength that he not show such emotions on his face or in his manner save a slight tick or compunction, which he stopped by placing his hand on the cane and pressing his weight to it. With a flick and fluid motion he'd drawn his wand and so alight came the room in which they stood, giving his house elf a kick with his fine dragon skin shoes "We have guests! don't just stand there!" even this small burst of unmediated violence toward a creature not even half his size actually helped his mood, as he felt his slack hand tickled by the white fur of his albino wolves, and he patted their head somewhat absently, awaiting both the dark lord's response and -with any luck- the exit of Bellatrix Lestrange. He knew the latter was supremely unlikely unless the dark one dismissed her personally. After all Lucius had his dogs. Voldemort had one as well. The elf scrambled to offer to take the cloaks of the two wizards and appropriate whatever libations or other accommodations they might require, in the meanwhile opening the door to one of the more accommodating rooms that they might retire to if they so wished.

It was always interesting to watch Lucius, to run through this thoughts and to discover where that blond head was traveling to. In the presence of the Dark Lord, it wasn’t something someone should do, exploring their past, giving vital information to the Lord of Darkness that could potentially bring trouble to the thinker. He simply smiled, however, and pulled himself from the blonde’s train of thought. After all, he could careless, at the moment. Things needed to get done, and the Dark Lord wouldn’t be doing those things. Importance was held for certain things, and for others less, but both Lucius’ future mission and the Lord were equally imperative. As he was offered a more luxurious room to speak within, he took the offer, ignoring the house elf as he sometimes tended to do when those of lesser value were near him. Following as a benevolently submissive house guest might, he stepped into the room. He hardly cared or took notice of the furniture, not caring to sit, pacing back and forth across the room, though his strides were slow, even, lethal in a sense.
The bickering was beginning to get old, and he would soon call for silence if it was not established in the near future. He had something to say, and Lucius speaking snide comments to Bellatrix would not overpower the Dark Lord’s words. He stopped for a moment as the two entered the room with him, looking at them, one after the other, and he smiled a wicked grin. Where they just not the worst two pair of humans that could be stuck in a room with one another? He pawed through a few stray thoughts, clearing his mind, ready to give yet more orders. If only there was another as magnificent as he, that he might trust enough to run the show for a few hours, perhaps even a couple days. However, no such being was his equal, a few falling a bit below, but he would hardly trust Bellatrix to take care of giving the orders. Too many of his own would end up dead for him to see any profit in allowing her to take his place. And Lucius was out of the question, and he would soon be very busy with something else.
”Lucius, Bellatrix, sit before you have no choice in the matter,” his voice oddly low, oddly slow. He took his own seat on a seat he hardly cared to learn to details of, simply knowing that the seat wouldn’t attempt to take his life. He grinned wickedly, his eyes narrowing further. The thrill that he would soon have further knowledge on the boy who lived almost gave him chills, excitement raging through his system. ’I need you to obtain something for me Lucius, something deep within the ministry. A prophecy, concerning Potter and I. The information will be quite valued to me, and success could mean great things for you Lucius.” He stood, turning his back to the two, his hand clasped behind him. He gave a small, malicious chuckle before helf turning to Lucius. ”And failure could mean quite a bit as well.”

Lucius sat and listened to what was seemingly tasked to him and his heart sunk a bit. He remained unwavering, unblinking outwardly but inside he wondered if this assignment was one that was given to him because of supreme trust in his abilities and faith in him as a wizard and one of the dark lord's lieutenants, or one that Voldemort simply wanted to punish Lucius with for loss of a horcrux. Lucius suspected a bit of both.
Be that as it may he said nothing as he rested his hand on this silver serpent headed staff, nearly using it to support himself from the seat as he was assigned, what he was assigned with. He spoke then with a quaver in his voice ""Yes. My lord I'm.." cleared his throat noticeably and spoke
"I'm flattered you'd come to me with such a crucial task. I'm certain such prophecies cannot be removed by just anyone. I'll confer with Rookwood and Yaxley on the matter." he brought his drink to his lips then as the house elf came about with drinks on a tray for the guests, although Lucius knew in his gut that his guests had just become residents.
Lucius's forget me not blue eyes began to dart from back to forth, as if he were in REM sleep practically, clearly attempting to think of a viable plan to do all this with, he'd followed with "I've a few...tactics I can employ to try and get my hands on the prophecy in question." of course whether he was talking about men he'd had under the imperius curse or having greased the palms of with a few galleons, was anyone's guess. Though likely a few of each.
Of course this could potentially blow his cover of the good citizen, philanthropist who gave to generously to Saint Mungos, and "victim" of death eater cruelty and torture, but he knew Voldemort knew this. In his opinion such a post hadn't outlived it's usefulness, he could offer much more as a functioning member of society and the wizarding world, a pillar of their community, than he could simply a Death Eater. The Dark lord had enough sycophants to go around, people that would die for him, rot in prison for him, with Lucius help the man had access and influence throughout the upper tiers of the wizarding world, he WAS most of the influence the Dark One had in the ministry.
