On this sunny, but also chilly October afternoon, many students could be found roaming the grounds of Hogwarts. It was a Saturday, and as there were no classes, the students were taking advantage of the day by spending it outside rather than cooped up in the castle. But not everyone who resided in the castle could be found on it's grounds at this moment in time.[/size]
One such person was the school's Deputy Headmistress, Professor Minerva McGonagall. Currently, she was making her way through Hogsmeade to the Three Broomsticks. She didn’t have any work to be completed at the moment, as she had already finished forms for the Ministry earlier this morning. Normally, she would be grading assignments, but her position had been filled when she had gone on a mission for the Order at the beginning of the year. She missed teaching very much, and hoped she would get to take back the spot that she so dearly missed as soon as possible. Teaching was a huge part of her life, and if she admitted it to herself, she was somewhat lost without it.
But, these were not the thoughts that were plaguing Minerva’s mind as she pushed through the doors and into the Three Broomsticks. No, she was thinking about one certain person who had been getting on her nerves for quite some time now. Dolores Umbridge. The woman had shown up on the first day of the school year, informing her and Albus that she was to be the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. After only a week, Minerva was having problems with the woman. Unfortunately, she had no power to get rid of her. Even Albus didn’t. The Minister had sent her here, and so she would remain. However, Umbridge had been increasingly gaining more and more power over the school during the short time she had been here, and Minerva feared for how powerful the woman might become.
Already, she had started monitoring the teachers, and had found a select few whom she seemed to harass more than the others, Minerva included. Of course, Minerva stood up to all of the woman’s harassment as she would to anyone else’s. It was evident to probably everyone in the castle that the two women despised each other. And this is why she could be found in Hogsmeade on this day. She had needed to get away from the castle, and the toad, for a short time. Sighing, Minerva settled her ever aging body into one of the uncomfortable wooden chairs located at a table in a far corner where she hopefully wouldn’t be bothered by anyone. It was too early for the suppertime rush, and so the restaurant was mostly deserted, which was all the better. There weren’t enough people to make a lot of noise that would add to the headache now making itself present. Rubbing her temples, Minerva ordered a glass of wine, hoping it would help to relax her. When the waiter dropped it off on her table, she nodded her thank you and took a sip.
Leaning back in the chair, she closed her eyes and willed the pain in her head to subside. She had only been sitting there for a few minutes when she heard the doors open. It was a few more seconds, and Minerva heard footsteps approaching her table. Not even bothering to open her eyes, she let her frustration get the better of her. “Oh, what do you want?” she snapped. Of course, this wasn’t the best thing to say, as she really had no idea who had just approached her. But really, the stupid headache had just started to disappear in the quiet that she couldn’t find at Hogwarts, and she had only wanted to be by herself for maybe an hour, without someone needing her attention. Sadly, it seemed her time of relaxation had now come to an end.
