Nymphadora walk in through the door of 12 Grimmuald Place, once home to the Black family and now headquaters to the Order of the Phoenix thanks to her cousin Sirius Black. It wasn't exactly her favorite place considering it did belong to Sirius's parents, the room with the family tree being her least favorite room of all. She remembered the first time she walked into the house and saw that room. She had found her mother's and Sirius's face burnt of thanks to Sirius's mother. She saw them as traitors to the family, just because Tonk's mother married a muggle and because Sirius despised his family. Not that she blamed him. She would have left too if she had grown up in that family. That's what she loved about her mother and Sirius. They weren't afraid to stand up against what they thought was wrong. In her mother's case, Nymphadora may not have been born at all if it weren't for what her mother did and Sirius may not have been the great man he was if he had followed his parents beliefs. She admired their courage and hoped that she would follow in their footsteps.
After she had closed the door she turned and leaned her back on it for a little bit, sighing in frustration. She had just come from Hogwarts. She had made up some excuse that she had forgotten something that she really needed and lucky for her Umbridge bought it, or at least acted as she did. Either way she was relieved that she was able to get away from that woman, even if it was only for a small amount of time. She didn't doubt Umbridge would be expecting her to come back in a timely fashion. God, how she despised that woman. Everything about her was so irritating, and how she treated people, she spoke in such a condescending tone, making people feel low and making herself seem so superior, just because she believed in her beloved minister. Worse, all that pink she wore. It was revolting. She sighed in frustration. "How in the world did I get stuck with this?" she said to herself. At that moment she looked ahead as she saw something moving in the kitchen. Sirius? He was the only person she could think of to be here right now. After all it's not like he could go anywhere. She walked up ahead into the kitchen. She looked around no one...she jumped a little. She came into contact with none other than Kreacher. Even though she was a Black by blood Kreacher despised her because she was the Andromeda's , or in his eyes a blood traitor, daughter. He started his mumbling, calling her the a blood traitor just like her mother. As if she wasn't already ticked off he was just adding to her frustration. "Shut it you. I don't have the patience for your pathetic insults today." she said, her hair starting to turn read from her frustration and anger but that didn't exactly stop him from his insults, after all, since she was the daughter of a blood traitor in his eyes he didn't listen to her.

. this road was paved by the broken hearted but we've got to finish what we started 580. - Tonks! - sorry this is so ranty! blame Kreacher!
-------------------------------------------------------
Had Sirius Black any intentions of being verbally assaulted by his family and their pure-blood mania all his life he wouldn't have walked out when he was sixteen years old. But he had done exactly that. And when his mother screamed her bloody head off about disowning him, about how sorry an excuse for a Black he was, he hadn't even looked back. That same night, to both Andromeda and James, he's said that he'd never set foot in # 12 Grimmauld Place again. Never in a million years did he think he'd be forced to reside in the house for months on end. But then, there were a lot of things that had happened he'd never predicted. The show that Kreacher had put on, the one where he listened to Sirius' orders, that hadn't lasted much longer once the school year started. House elves thrived on approval, and in this family, feared death by having fault. While Kreacher may not have liked any of the Order members, he certainly did understand their power in numbers. And Sirius wasn't exactly an non-intimidating figure on his own (Kreacher seemed to believe the murderer story, huh). He may have been the heir to the home, but he still was a blood traitor, and there wasn't a portrait in the house that hesitated to mention it. Sirius had said he wouldn't harm Kreacher, but that had gone out the window earlier in the week when the house elf took a jibe at the Marauders' expense. Sirius had smacked him with his wand, but he didn't regard it as cruelty, because anyone that insulted James and Remus would have found themselves with the same (or much worse) a fate. Of course, the action hadn't achieved much but making Kreacher taunt more, and so Sirius had shouted him off, and then spent the next few days staring at the walls in his room and topping off quite a few bottles of firewhiskey.
That said, the house around him had grown rather silent, and the voices -faint as they were from downstairs- were easily recognizable. He was halfway down the steps when he caught sight of Tonks' familiar hair from behind. He was about to say something to her, but then Kreacher uttered his opinion, and not for the first time surely, "Shut up!" Sirius commanded. Those words seemed so overused by now, still venomous, but exasperated. He approached the duo before adding very seriously, "You will not speak to her that way." Infuriating him was one thing, but the prospect of disrespecting Tonks wasn't much less than were it Remus or Harry in his mind. "Excuse him. He must be ecstatic he has someone new to harass." He finally looked at his cousin, rolling his eyes at the explanation that wasn't in any means meant to justify the elf's actions. "Go away. Her room, the attic. I don't care. Don't argue with me." He was only mildly surprised when Kreacher actually started off. Sirius learned against the door frame in the kitchen and smirked at his cousin slightly. He'd known she was stationed in Hogwarts, and he knew who else had been there. Not personally, of course, but he'd heard enough to be glad he wasn't meeting her. Of course, he'd come to that conclusion the second he found out she was Ministry appointed. "So how has the hag in pink been treating you?" .

Of course despite what she said Kreacher kept at. He must get a kick out of insulting others if they weren't purebloods or blood traitors. It was pathetic. She was about to explode on Kreacher if it weren't for the fact that she heard Sirius's voice from behind her, saving her from doing anything she would regret. Kreacher after all wasn't the first house elf that she had ever met but she was the she probably hated the most.
Thankfully Sirius had arrived and a few moments Kreacher was on his way somewhere she really didn't care about but at least it was away from her. She sighed in relief. Looking up to her cousin. She gave him a smile in thanks. "Thank you Sirius." she said greatfully. She leaned on the wall for a moment. She was wondering why he was smirking. Then he made it clear why. Someone must have told him that she had been assigned to Hogwarts recently. She knew it hadn't been her. She hadn't had a chance to come to Grimmuald since she was given her new assignment. She smirked. "Worried about me? Don't worry. I threatened to sick my dog on her if she wasn't careful." she said jokingly with a wink. That was the first time she had felt a little happy in a while. It was thanks to her beloved cousin.
She loved Sirius. She remembered having so much fun with him when she was growing up. He was always making her laugh. If it was through magic or what ever little tricks he came up with, Nymphadora had only fond memories of Sirius. She looked up to him. Always asking him about Hogwarts and things. He was part of the reason she was so excited to attend Hogwarts. She also remembered how one day, a few years before she would be heading off to Hogwarts, he was just gone. It wasn't until later that she really understood why. He had been sent to Azkaban, supposedly for murder. She never believed it though. She knew Sirius. He was too kind and good to be able to do something like that, especially to his friend or at least someone he thought was his friend. If it weren't for that damn Peter Pettigrew he wouldn't have been in this mess. Then there were the people who believed that Sirius was a follower of the Dark Lord and things. She hated it. She just was never able to say so because then people would question her. Then he broke out of Azakaban and though technically she was suppose to be looking for him, she knew he was innocent and thankfully she learned that so did many others, including Dumbledore.
Now he was here. Trapped in his former home. A prisoner again, only with better food. She looked back at Sirius. "The "hag" is making sure her presence and plans are known. She wants to make sure the kids learn "in a safe and secure way"" she said in a mocking way. "All she really wants to do is start brainwashing them into siding with the Ministry. Its sad really. As for me, she wants me to just watch out for any suspicious activity and "anyone that may be causing trouble and spreading lies."" she exasperated breath. "Basically, keep an eye on Harry and to tell her if he starts talking badly about her precious Minister. I just don't understand why, of everyone willing to play Ministry pet, why me."

. this road was paved by the broken hearted but we've got to finish what we started
769. - Tonks! - i've gone and surpassed lengthy, even more sorry >.> ------------------------------------------------------- Sirius nodded to her thanks, watching as her tone took on something much like his own. At her response to his question he couldn't help but laugh, and it surprised him the way it was almost surreal. Like was it really him that was laughing? It obviously wasn't something that happened regularly when only he and Kreacher were around. Nothing had probably been as pleasing since before the fall term began in fact. But that was Tonks. It was amazing what just a few minutes with his cousin could do. He didn't think other people that saw her regularly appreciated her nearly enough. "Not a bad idea at all." he agreed, and though he doubted she'd actually said such thing, he knew it had more truth in it than Umbridge could ever expect. The woman ought not give him a reason to worry.
As much as he liked Tonks being around- and it was a lot, it really was- there was something about looking at her that was just like staring time in the face. With Remus, thirteen years of change had been subtle, almost expected. It had been a Remus that came out every once in a while, when he was weary, and that Remus was only more permanent now. Harry had been so young when his parents died, there had been nothing to change; only things to first shape. And he was so, so much like James, that Sirius might not have known him at all, but it felt like he had. When he was first reintroduced to Tonks, he had a hard time believing that the woman in front of him was the same child that he'd play with when he visited Andromeda. It had been before he was thrown in Azkaban that he stopped visiting her. He hadn't said goodbye either. With the position he planned on taking while James and his family hid, it wouldn't have been safe. But he never really stopped thinking about her. He'd always expected her to do great things- to be the first truly good, not so messed up one in their family- but hearing that she was an Auror was something unbelievable entirely. He knew how hard that path was, he'd considered it enough times before.. before. Back where he was. Still was. When Tonks was excited about getting her own wand and an acceptance letter to Hogwarts. But the world hadn't done any kind of stopping for him.
He averted his eyes slightly, listening as she began explaining what Umbridge had planned, and taking in each word. That didn't stop him from interrupting, of course. Tonks' 'safe and secure way' had earned another bark of laugher, and then a "You mean with as little fun as possible." And 'spreading lies' he couldn't even laugh at. "Funny word they use for the truth these days." Sirius had never had much respect for the ministry. Ultimately why he'd joined the Order straight from school instead of pursuing being an Auror. After the way his sentence was handled though, he'd gone from not respecting them to finding them completely daft. And, maybe more noticeably, holding a grudge. The idea of Harry subjected to these people was infuriating. But right now, he was focusing on Tonks. "They chose you because you're so good at pretending you're on their side." Another smirk, though it faltered as he thought about what he said. "Their side, our side, not quite sure anymore" he shrugged like it didn't matter. The Ministry wasn't the Death Eaters, he supposed. No need to be that harsh with them. "It's also because the kids like you. You know, you're an Auror. That's a big thing. A young one at that. Good personality. Not terrible looking. With another Umbridge, people'd be zipping their mouths, and sure that's what she says she wants, but if she's anything like the rest of the Ministry scum, she probably enjoys dishing out punishments more than she cares to get her way."
That's what it seemed like from where he stood anyway. When people were all expendable and useful. The last one, especially. "Anyway," he had something else on his mind as well. Another pressing thought despite that he'd like to keep their conversation on relatively light terms. "What are you doing here?" He supposed that could have been light, but people only stopped by # 12 when something had happened, and that something was more often than not in the bad variety.

It made her smile when she heard Sirius laughed, especially since she helped in it. She had always thought that smiling and laughing were good for the soul. Now a days though it might of been a little harder to find a reason to smile, especially for Sirius. To Azkaban only to become basically a prisoner in his own home. A home that he despised being in at all and as the Order are running around, he is here with only Kreacher for company. That was not exactly a plan for fun. She knew she would hate have to be stuck in this place while the people she knew and cared about where out in the world doing who knows what.
She smiled at Sirius when he would interrupt her with a comment. That was something she was used to. She remembered him doing it all the time when she was younger. "So true. She goes on and on about how she wants the kids to be "safe and protected from the evils of the world."" she said shaking her head. It made her happy to know that Sirius really hadn't changed. Although, where Sirius may not have changed, his world did. Nymphadora was an example of that. She was a little girl when he was a sent away. He escapes and now she is a grown woman. That must have been an surprise for him. She looked at him when he said why she would have been chosen. Of course he was right. He could think of logical reasons that she wouldn’t have. Then she answered his question. “I’m not even at Hogwarts a whole hour and already I couldn’t stand Umbridge. I just needed to get away from her for a little while. I told her I had forgotten some important things at home. She won’t be expecting me until tonight.” she smiled at the fact that she was able to pull one over Umbridge. “I couldn’t think of a better place to go than here to just get away for a little bit.” she said. It was probably just because of Sirius’s presence that she felt a little at ease, more than she did earlier. She looked down though before speaking again.“I…I’m just worried. I mean I know that being at Hogwarts could be useful to the Order but with Umbridge being so close I’m just a little scared of doing something that could jeopardize the Order. Or even you. I mean, she’s knows that by blood I’m related to you. What if I did something that would make her question my motives.” she wouldn’t be able to bare it if something happened to Sirius because of her.

. this road was paved by the broken hearted but we've got to finish what we started
469. - Tonks! - kay, slightly less words here ------------------------------------------------------- Sirius was fairly surprised to find that she'd come just by choice. He knew that Umbridge was bad, but he hardly saw the woman comparing to the house. He'd never had the pleasure of making her acquaintance though, and apparently it was actually a nice place the Order now used as headquarters. Many of the Order members had actually been surprised by the estate, especially once it was deemed livable and ridded of many of the.. darker objects. The people that said that could walk outside whenever they pleased though. Sirius didn't consider their opinions on the matter much. "I could think of quite a few better places." The sarcasm was obvious, but it could have seemed mirthful if one didn't' catch his eyes.
He frowned slightly when she began voicing her concerns, and once she'd finished he shook his head. "I don't think you could jeopardize the Order if you tried." he assured her, expression softening slightly, smiling genuinely as he beckoned her to look up. "You have to realize just how upside-down the Ministry thinks this situation is. You're related to quite a few less than pleasant people by blood, but some very good ones too. And that's just how wizarding families work. You don't want me to get into that, I assure you. Your parents have always been well liked and with due reason.. very due reason. Your mother especially.. and I doubt anyone questions where your loyalties lie." He paused for a moment, never quite having considered her going through anything due to her blood. Not as a Tonks. At least, he didn't think so. His first year in Gryffindor, he could remember, there'd been an absolute uproar. Age eleven and people thought he was a spy. It only seemed comedic now. Frustrating then. Or maybe it was the other way around. As long as everything played in a consistent never ending loop.. That's what it had come to. Circles. That's why he couldn't bring himself to worry about varriables, like the things Tonks did. Because he knew, he knew that everything ultamately meant nothing. Tonks' actions had results. "Even if anyone suspected you were on good terms with me, the Ministry thinks I'm a follower of Voldemort. They'd deem you neutral if anything, or unsure, and they can't demote you for that legally." Of course, they called him a Death Eater even after revealing the absent dark mark. Legal was the least of anyone's worries these days. He kept that to himself. "In no case scenario does that make you an Order member." he concluded, "No case does it lead them here especially... It's a rather interesting trail that we've set up and I don't see them capable of figuring it out any time soon." .

Nymphadora looked at him when he said that he could of thought of better places to go, the sarcasm obvious in his voice and eyes. In reality she could have also if she really wanted to. “I probably could have too if I had really wanted to. I could have gone to my mother’s I guess. I don’t, the first place I thought of was here so I came here.” It was the most homiest place in the world that was for sure. It was dark and gloomy. Sirius’s mother had awful taste but now that it was the headquarters of the Order, well in her eyes it wasn’t all that bad to. “This place isn’t all that bad. For one you’re here. And I think since the Order came in, they’ve kind of changed the atmosphere a bit.” she said truthfully. She could understand why Sirius would think otherwise about the home. He was the one who lived in it way before any of the members had come and he had to live with his mother. That was one of the things that Nymphadora admired about Sirius. The fact that he basically walked away from the lifestyle that his parents and family tried to push on him, the whole pure-blood thing. If he hadn’t, well she didn’t really want to think about what would have happened if he hadn’t; the point was she was happy he did.
It didn’t take away her fears though. About screwing some way that that could prove badly for the Order and Sirius. She wasn’t the most perfect member. She was young and she made mistakes. She just felt that perhaps she could also be a liability more than a help. She looked up at him at the sound of his voice trying to reassure her. She looked at his smile and couldn’t help but a small smile that was creeping on her face. He always had that affect her. When she was feeling down he would try to brighten her spirits and smile. She sighed. “As usual you’re most likely right. I’m just probably fussing over nothing. I mean the Order wouldn’t have you here if they didn’t you’d be safe here.” she said. At least that was what she believed. As long as Sirius were to stay put in the house that is. Not that she could blame him wanting to get out all the time. She let out another sigh before looking back at Sirius. “I’m sorry. Here I am babbling on about my little fears but the last thing you need to be worry about is little old me.” she said as she thought that she was basically wasting his time going on with her own insecurities. He had more important things to worry about. All this though reminded her of something. “Oh, that reminds me of something. I’ve been meaning to give you something. I know that this place doesn’t exactly have the best pictures in it but perhaps this could make up for it a little.” she said as she pulled out a picture from her pocket. She smiled as she looked at it and then handed it over. It was a picture of Sirius and Nymphadora when she was younger. “My mother found it and we thought it would be best for you to have it. Do you remember when we took this one”

. this road was paved by the broken hearted but we've got to finish what we started
539. - Tonks! - me too! :3 this isn't all that good a post though, eh ------------------------------------------------------------- "I suppose, but the Order isn't here now." Sirius reminded her, arguing it slightly despite actually agreeing with the statement. "It does make the difference." During the Summer the house had been much less...it had been all around better, if only because of how full it was. Wesley kids running around and the Order all in one place getting things done. Afterwards it had gotten too bloody quiet. Despite being a rather large house, every time # 12 emptied out, it seemed to shrink to less than a quarter of it's proper proportions. Realistically that might have went against every law of physics, and most charms and spells... but when you were in his position, what made sense didn't exactly matter. It was practically a different place then, and Tonks being here brought a little bit of that thing that was almsot a home. "Not that I object to you stopping by either way." he added, nodding. The last thing he actually wanted was to change her mind on the matter.
It was the nine year old Tonks that he expected to listen to him without question, agree, and stop worrying. Not so much one that knew everything about the world that she did now. She seemed genuine enough though, and it was rather refreshing. He liked thinking that he'd helped her- that he still could help her, even if in that small way. "I don't think I'm right all that often, but I'd like to think Dumbledore and Moody know what they're doing with these things." he gave a shrug. They hadn't been proved wrong yet, even he had to admit. The former had made a few decisions he didn't agree with, but he knew enough about everyone that Sirius couldn't at the least respect it. "I've got every reason to worry about you though. You shouldn't need to keep these things to yourself. And besides, contrary to popular belief, I do like knowing what's going on in the real word once in a while. I don't expect it to be all the best news."
He raised an eyebrow slightly as she spoke of something else she'd planned on giving him. The pictures.. he watched as she pulled something from her pocket. Taking the offered picture from her hands, his eyes trailed down and he traced it fondly. He wasn't certain he'd have been able to place it, after thirteen years of learning to keep his better memories far from the front of his mind, but it hadn't been as hard as he'd thought to remember that particular visit with Tonks. He nodded to her question, still looking over it, smile on his face growing. And then looking back up to Tonks, comparing her to the little girl. He didn't bother acknowledging the differences in his own appearance, none of the better. He had a certain look in the picture though. It made the situation almost obvious. "A few minutes after that I'd offered to take you out on my motorbike." he mused, chuckling slightly "I think Andie nearly had a heart attack." He lowered the picture once more. "It makes up for it a lot." he said gratefully, "Tell her thank you, when you get the chance." .

Sirius had a point. When the Weasley family and the Order were here the house became much more livelier that was for sure, especially because of the Weasley family. They were such a loving family bursting with joy. Now though things were different. Of course the Order would meet here every now and then but not as often as they did when they had started. So she understood what Sirius meant. Now, it was just Sirius in the house really. Kreacher didn't make for good company after all. She smiled though when he said he didn't object to her coming. Nymphadora would have to make it a note of perhaps coming to Grimmauld a bit more often.
She didn't see anything wrong with just visiting her cousin, bringing him the Daily Prophet or something. As he said, he deserved to be able to keep up to date with what was going on in the Wizardry World, even if it isn't all that great of news. She would hate being kept in the dark and she didn't doubt that Sirius felt the same. "Me too." she said agreeing with him about Moody and Dumbledore. Moody was her mentor and she had faith that both he and Dumbledore would keep Sirius safe. "I promise the next time I come I'll bring the paper as well. And now that I'm at Hogwarts, maybe I can send you an owl every now and then keeping you posted on Harry and things. I don't see any problem with that."
As she handed over the picture she couldn't help but smile as Sirius looked it over. His smile took away anything worries he may have had. She was happy that he had remembered not that she be upset with him or anything if he hadn't. She knew that because of the Dementors of Azkaban perhaps he had kept any good memories locked away. Even if he had it seemed like the memory came back quickly. She giggled a bit when he brought up about his motorbike offer. "I will make sure to tell her. She'll be thrilled. I do remember you offer. I was all for it but of course my beloved mother objected." Her smiled lightened as she looked back at the picture of a younger her and Sirius. She spoke a little softer. "You had assured her that you wouldn't but then when she had left the room you promised that you would when I was a little older." Sadly though, that promise never came to be. For it wasn't long after that picture that Sirius had stopped coming to visit. "I know it's silly but for a while I thought...I thought I had done something wrong, and that that was the reason you had stop coming. "

. this road was paved by the broken hearted but we've got to finish what we started
476. - Tonks! - it made me aww, but i've gone and made the depressing worse xP ------------------------------------------------------------- "That'd be nice." Sirius told her, trying to remain somewhat indifferent, though he certainly valued her offer more than he'd let on. He looked forward to it, in fact. "I'm not sure how they feel about owls here though. Emergancies only, I've been told. Wouldn't want to get you in trouble. Of course.. you didn't have to know " He added the last bit mischeviously. The Daily Prophet was mostly made of lies, but there was something about reading the shabby thing and being in the Order- it was amusing at the least. And of course, any news about Harry would have been nice. He'd thought about asking before, when he found out Tonks was going, but he expected she might be doing a little more than playing Ministry pet then. Now it seemed that her job wasn't particularly exciting, albeit maybe very trying with Umbridge around. "So how is he?" he asked, looking up from the picture as Tonks spoke. His face fell at the parts of the story she mentioned that he'd left out. With a due reason. He hadn't kept him promise. It wasn't the first or the last.
"Later in the week you tried to convince me that you were a little bit older." he remembered, but that was about as far as the pleasant thoughts went. "It was month before we found out about the prophecy. James and I were about to leave on an Order mission and suddenly we were called out to report to Dumbledore. There was this look on his face. We'd never seen it before... I swear we'd thought someone just died. And then he told us." He shut his eyes for a moment, pressing back thoughts of a familiar chill, vaguely aware that he was still speaking to Tonks. And he'd had a point he was getting at. "Never. You never did anything... We had a chance to say goodbye before we moved but.. I still don't know how they did it. I couldn't just go to your mum and tell her I was taking a vacation I probably wouldn't come back from alive. We were forbidden to mention the plan at all. Not where we'd be or why we'd be there. I have to admit, I didn't want to be seen with you either. Enough people were being put in danger." He glanced at the floor. Leave it at that. For the best. "Dumbledore promised that it would all be over by Christmas. Either the Order would have stepped in and won the war or I'd have been killed and the Potter's secret would have died with me. He didn't know we'd changed the plans by then, but we all believed him." Realizing for the first time just how much he'd said, he ran a hand through his hair, sighing as he finally looked at Tonks. What had she said before.. about not needing to hear it.. "I'm sorry.."

Nymphadora listened to Sirius story intently. She didn't mean to make him feel bad or anything. She really needed to learn when to keep her trap closed. It was the first time he'd talk about those days with her. She had never had the courage to ask, not wanting to bring up any painful memories. Which it seems it may have done just that. A small part of her, maybe it was the child that had missed Sirius all those years was happy to hear an explanation after all this time but then there was a part of her that never needed it. That was the part that grew up and realized that there was a reason for everything that Sirius did and she needed to know that. "You don't have to apologize. You had a reason for what you did. You were trying to protect us." She said with a light smile. She just wished that he hadn't need to suffer as much as he did.
He was betrayed by someone he thought was his friend, lost two of friends and then was sentenced to Azkaban for a crime he didn't commit where he he had to deal with dementors for twelve years. Some men would be completely broken after such an experience, but Sirius was stronger that. Where some people would have completely given up Sirius was still fighting. She admire that about him. She tried to lighten the mood. "Well, maybe when all this chaos is over I can finally get that ride I've been waiting for. That is if you ever get it back from Hagrid." she said with a smile. She tucked a lock of her hair behind her ear. "As for Harry, I saw him when I was walking around Hogwarts. I didn't get the chance to talk to him yet but he seemed fine. I'll probably see him tonight. Dumbledore's planning dance for the kids tonight. Something about wanting to lessen the tension of what's going on right now with the starting with a new term. He asked me to chaperone as well. I'll make sure to tell him you said hello. Not sure I'm looking very forward to that, especially if those Weasley twins were to decide to pull something, which I wouldn't put it passed them." she said with a light laugh just thinking of the possible antics those two could try to pull off.
"I just realized that I was so eager to get out of Hogwarts that I haven't eaten anything. I think I'll make myself some sandwiches. Would you like some Sirius?" she asked him as she got up to start making some. "The only bad thing about this dance thing is that it is rather a formal dance."

. this road was paved by the broken hearted but we've got to finish what we started
idk words. - Tonks! - =D ------------------------------------------------------------- Sirius nodded absentmindedly as she mentioned the motorcycle again. It had honestly strayed almost entirely from his thoughts. "Maybe.." he told her finally, but it was with fair enough reason he'd never before considered the option. It seemed like nothing more than false hope at the moment. As much as the chaos ending in time for Christmas more than fifteen years ago had ended up. The chaos wasn't going to end any time soon now. If anything, things would be getting worse first. "I doubt Hagrid kept it though.. After what happened.. What he thought happened, anyway. I wouldn't blame him if he didn't." He'd gotten rid of everything of Pettigrew's he had laying around his old room. Anything they might have written, pictures. Even in regard to the things that didn't belong to the traitor, it was hard to sit around and look at reminders of his friends. The pictures in his room were all nice, but hardly any less depressing then the ones in the hall. In fact, their brand of depressing seemed to be in many ways worse. It was funny how things ended up working.
"A dance?" He repeated, following her as Tonks walked further in the kitchen. "Yes.. that sounds like something he'd do. Have fun chaperoning though. It sounds like a dreadfully terrible job. You ought to switch up you're look and see how many seventh years you could get to go out with you." The idea came without much a thought. Something that seemed like a given with Tonks being a metamorphangus. Why not use it to have a little fun? Of course, unless she felt the need to bring up those doey eyes she'd been making at Remus. That was another matter entirely. At the mention of the Wesley twins he rolled his eyes, saying very declaratively "Well someone needs to keep Hogwarts on it's toes." It was something he'd stand by, despite how much trouble he knew Tonks was in for tonight. There was a certain legacy to these things, and he didn't quite mind it being passed on to Fred and George. They were quite good in fact. Almost up to Marauder standards. "I expect they'll be preparing for it now. You'll have to tell me what they come up with. Something we haven't done before, hopefully." The 'we' had sort of been a slip of the tongue, he didn't feel the need to explain it to himself. The Marauders had done almost everything there was to do when it came to dance pranks. It was the only reason worth going to the dances at all up until James and Lily got together in seventh year. And of course.. trying to pair up Remus and.. Peter, was always fun to.
He nodded and went to help her. Might as well do something. "Why's that a bad thing?" he questioned, smirking "You're not obliged to follow any dress code.. unless i've actually got you taking my suggestion from earlier." Of course, chaperoning a formal dance wasn't fun. You could get past all the suits and terrible music when you had havoc to wreck, but as for the rest of the world.. he didn't know how they managed.

When Sirius said maybe she could tell that he didn't want to make any promises that he didn't feel like he would be able to keep. After all, in this war no one knew what could happen at anytime. Someone could be making plans for Christmas and sadly die tomorrow. She understood what he meant but at the same time it gave her something to look forward. A small lining of hope when hopefully this war was over. She just nodded when he said that perhaps Hagrid had gotten rid of it. She looked at him for a moment. "I'll ask him about it the next time I see him. Perhaps tonight at the dance." She said cheerfully as she backed up to reach for something. That was a bad idea though and she should have known. As she was backing up and since she was looking at Sirius when she was talking she hadn't realized that there was something on the floor and so she nearly tripped over it. "Whoa. I'm alright." She said as she caught herself. That was just like her. Tripping over her own feet.
She raised an eyebrow at his suggestion. "Oh yes because that is exactly what I want to happen. Have whole bunch of seventh years hitting on me." she said sarcastically. The funny thing is though, she wouldn't admit it to him but she was actually considering it. It would be quite funny actually to see what would happen. It wouldn't be the first time she had changed her appearance to trick people. Besides, it wouldn't be as bad as what she was sure the twins would have planned. She laughed at what Sirius said about the twins. "Molly would get on your case if she heard you saying that. Encouraging those two. Not that you're wrong though." she said rather mischievously. She wasn't exactly the perfect student herself when she went to Hogwarts. She obviously pull anything the twins or anything she was sure Sirius had done in his time but she wasn't always the most behaved student. Professor Sprout, head of Hufflepuff, had gotten on her case a few times. "Well, I'm not sure how ready they'll be. Dumbledore isn't announcing the dance until after dinner tonight so the kids would only have about an hour to get ready but I don't doubt the twins wouldn't be able to come up with something."
She had caught the "we" that had come out. She knew when he said that he meant himself, Remus, James Potter and Peter. She really only knew that they were his best friends, minus Peter now, and that they use to cause trouble, some apparently with Snape considering they didn't like each other very much. "I will definitely let you know what trick they pull at the dance." She promised with a smile. She looked at him when he talked about his suggestion. "You would love that wouldn't you. Well, I'm not exactly going to be going in my weird sisters shirt or something. I should at least dress up decently. And I never said that I was considering your suggestion." she quickly added the last part as she said as she saw the smirk on his face, she couldn't help but crack a light smile. "Not that it probably wouldn't be a little entertaining." she muttered under breath. "There are probably other things I should worry about instead of trying to fool seventh years."

. this road was paved by the broken hearted but we've got to finish what we started
399 words. - Tonksie and Dragonboy - =D ------------------------------------------------------------- He agreed to Tonks' idea, realizing a bit after they'd already moved on that Hagrid wasn't at Hogwarts, and wouldn't be attending the dance unless the whole wizarding world (save him of course) was for some reason invited. Sirius grinned as Tonks tried to protest his idea and then went to comment on what he'd said about the twins. "I wasn't aware Molly needed a legitimate reason to get on my case." he said, faking a very curious look. "You're right though. The twins are more than capable of pranking without encouragement. We all know they'll try something no matter how terrible the time frame.. You, though, have quite a bit of time.. You really shouldn't put it to waste.." He trailed off, thinking for a moment. Letting her think. It was somewhat evident he was having too much fun with this. But it seemed like such a good idea. "You just said that you were considering it. Right now. And that's good to know." He was having too much fun with this.. And it just kept getting better. He turned when a new voice joined them, quite surprised to see Cole. The last they'd talked had been through a rather awkwardly worded letter. A letter he had quite a lot to comment on, but decided to refrain from doing in front of Tonks, because he didn't know quite how much she'd approve of their liberties to Dumbledore's specific orders. With a bit of a start he realized that he was being cautious, and Cole must have rubbed off on him more than he expected, and in more ways than they'd both intended. "Is Umbridge really that bad?" he came out with instead, back on the fact that the two of them had chosen to be here than at Hogwarts after hardly any time at all. Something he couldn't understand, even with Tonks' previous explanation. He already knew all about Cole at Hogwarts. Cole is in fact the reason he knew Tonks was there. So rather than commenting on his speech he jumped right to another question. Might as well get some subtle payback for being the girl. And that 'depressing crap' comment that he simply rolled his eyes to. "So, Cole, I take it that you're going to be attending this formal dance."
